#24 Ohio State vs. #1 Purdue, Jan. 5, 7PM EST, FS1

Don't know why Justice didn't turn and sprint with the ball toward half court. I have never seen a Buckeyes basketball team that's so bad at breaking out of press. Two of the three games I've seen were lost because they can't beat press to save their lives. No business losing that one, up 3 with 40 seconds to go.

Timeout with under 10 seconds when you have the ball across halfcourt is dumb. Line up and run a play. All timeout does there is makes you waste a second or 2 getting the ball in to someone probably moving away from the hoop

Everybody was behind the arc. If the 3 point shot just isn't there, making a 2 wouldn't have been a disaster, going to OT isn't the worst thing that could happen.

Another blown late game: shoulda won this and the UNC game. Uck

Yeah, pretty disappointing dropping the big games by a point or two. Apparently Ohio State basketball wanted to come full circle and also lose to the #1 by a point in heartbreaking fashion (too soon?).

Lots to like about the team though and losing Key hurt, but with the way Okpara I almost forgot...great game Felix. Plenty of other great performances out there too, just gotta find a way to win the close ones but plenty more time to get it honed in. I would say that our young players need more time, but they have looked wise beyond their years out there for the most part and seem comfortable playing with whoever is out there. Need to learn to beat the damn press.

Good news is we should stack up a series in the next 6-7 games and continue to gel. They're not all slouches but if we play like we did tonight, we would win each one. Shitty result between that and the UNC game, but on to the next one.

Agree with RB07 in that game was well played. Edney is a total load. tOSU had to collapse help when he got the ball. Wished I coulda 'shot down' on the basket when played, oh so long ago. Well he did, and pressure gave him fits, with a true frosh doing it. Again, well played Felix. Sueing was all over the court, else yeah, we woulda been blown out. Am liking this freshman class more and more. Couple are not showing their freshman stripes by wanting the ball in critical situations. Haven't pored over the stats yet, but Purdue hit some big, big threes, but so did the Buckeyes. Woulda liked to see tOSU go 'big' with both Zed and Felix in tandem (high and low posts), with three shooters out there. Agree that NC and Purdon't were hard losses, but looking at glass half full, you learn more from your mistakes than your victories. Will pay dividends in the future. All in all, took the #1 (or so) team in the nation to the wire, so call it a pyrrhic victory, but close to mid-point in season, Buckeyes are doing well. Holtmann is building a solid core, and there's another very good class inked for next year. He's a keeper, in my opinion. PS, to the folk who pine for Thad, he was an excellent coach for the Buckeyes. His injuries (back?) and who knows what else, knocked the team down quite a bit. His reign was like Fred Taylor's, it ascended, and then descended during the end, with very good in the middle. Holtmann is in his ascendency now. Stay tuned for the future. Go Bucks!

Ohio State's Chris Holtmann argues Purdue could have 'easily' been called for foul on final play of loss

ON THE FINAL PLAY OF THE GAME
"They ran through the screen. They just bullied the screen. It really very easily could have been a foul. We've got to do a better job and clean that up. They just bullied us, to be honest with you. I just watched it five times. They just bullied the screen. They ran right through Felix and completely dislodged him. Bruce Thornton has to space it a little bit better in that situation, but it's not on Bruce. Those two plays are on me."

Purdue's Matt Painter says 'we're not better than Ohio State' after Thursday's thrilling win over Buckeyes

"We're fortunate. We're very fortunate," Painter said in his postgame press conference. "We didn't have a very good start to this game, and it took us a while to settle into it. Obviously, we're not better than Ohio State. In this game, we were one possession better. They obviously have a really good team, and they're well-coached."
