Sueing, I'm glad he's playing for OSU and he was effective offensively, but he looked like he has some bad habits out there and room to improve, especially on D. At OSU, unlike at Cal, winning 8 ballgames a year is not the expectation, as OSU expects to win every game and to do that means having winning habits. He has to tighten some things up a bit to be the Alpha that this team needs him to be. Posing after an uncontested dunk when you're blowing out Illinois State, at a time when the ball is being inbounded by the opponent? C'mon man. He needs to tighten up on D a bit and move better laterally and not do things like run and wave past a shooter and proceed to go way out of bounds for this team to really take off and reach their potential. I realize he was productive and effective in many ways, just expect a bit more out of a team leader.
Key and Brown were bright spots. They both look like keepers. Brown actually looks really impressive, and Key you can tell his positive attitude and energy rub off on guys. This team overall has more room to grow on D at this point. Once again, it appears that the ceiling is somewhat limited offensively, at least with the personnel they have available right now. Defense, I see no reason why they shouldn't be outstanding eventually, especially with the seemingly endless number of scholarship players on the roster. I would imagine that Holtmann is going to focus hard on D in the coming weeks, and when they pare down the rotation heading into January, I would expect defensive soundness to be the edge that gets some guys a spot in the rotation over others.
