Five seasons of this. I have abused this space to complain about special teams because the mistakes keep forfeiting margins this program eventually needs, and hiring someone qualified was supposed to make those complaints obsolete. The Indiana win showed what a competent kicking operation can mean in a close game.*inhale*
Jerquaden Guilford held against Ball State, Dre Quinn lined up offside against Ball State and then again at Iowa because apparently this lesson required an away lab, Brenton Jones went offside at Texas and Cincere Johnson did it against Maryland, Chris Henry Jr. blocked a Kent State player on the side where he could read his name while doing it, Connor Hawkins false-started his own extra point against Illinois, TJ Alford false-started a punt at Iowa, Myles Lockhart held on a punt return at USC and Beau Atkinson supplemented a 44-yard Trojan punt return with a late hit because Ohio State had apparently purchased the Deluxe Field-Position Surrender Package, with supporting work from the unidentified Buckeyes who lined up illegally to punt at Indiana, substituted illegally while defending a two-point try at Iowa, ran into Maryland’s punter and allowed the play clock to expire before a punt at USC, a play they had presumably spent the preceding three downs preparing to execute.
