The Buckeyes will also soon host a 2025 four-star edge commit.
Ohio State is still 2-0 coming off of an early bye week. The coaching staff and this year’s crop of Buckeyes used the time off to get healthy and work on correcting issues found on tape. Ohio State will host Marshall this week and will look to move to 3-0, as the Buckeyes are the heavy favorites.
The Ohio State coaching staff found time during the bye week to also hit the recruiting trail. The Buckeyes offered a handful of offensive line prospects over the weekend, in an attempt to shore up a position in the 2025 class that does not currently meet expectations.
The Buckeyes continued to make recruiting headlines to start the week, as Ohio State made the top schools for a key linebacker target in the 2025 class. Four-star LB Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng (Bradenton, FL / IMG Academy) released his top six schools on Monday, and the Buckeyes made the cut.
Alongside Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Florida, USC and Texas all made the cut for the blue-chip linebacker.
Ohio State has long been recruiting Owusu-Boateng, and he took an official visit with the Buckeyes in June. He also took official visits with all of the schools competing with the Buckeyes, except for Florida. He did, however, attend the Gators first game of the season and could still take an official visit with them.
Owusu-Boateng will likely try to take visits with his contenders before committing, but it does seem like he is starting to come to a decision. On Monday, he also claimed a commitment date was coming soon, but that does not mean he has finalized on one school. There is likely a short-list that he is thinking of the most, but of the group, all six finalists are still in it.
Ohio State will want to get him back on campus for an in-game experience if it wants to have the best chance possible at earning his commitment. With him still being in the middle of a season and playing high school football in Florida, this could be tough. But if he and the Buckeyes are able to find the time, it would certainly better the odds for the Buckeyes.
Owusu-Boateng is the No. 8 LB in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 73 overall prospect. He is also the No. 11 recruit out of the talent-rich state of Florida.
The timing of the visit is also important for the Buckeyes, as Big Ten foe and in-state school Penn State has been increasing contact with Mathis and gaining steam in his recruitment. If Mathis is able to solidify an official visit with the Buckeyes, it would go a long way in quieting the de-commitment rumors.
Mathis is the No. 6 edge in the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the No. 64 overall prospect.
