2025 Cotton Bowl: #2 tOSU vs #10 Miami-FL, Wed 12/31 7:30 ET at JerryWorld

The season climaxed(yes I know) in AA , after that nothing seemed left in the tank.
See I wonder about this. I wonder if we focused so hard on that game that our season was just complete once we got the win. The guys would never admit it but it seemed like there was a massive (and understandable) sigh of relief as the clock hit zero.

I think there’s something to teams having a long pause between games as well but that’s no excuses.

The bottom line is although we made things look close statistically I never had much hope once we went down 14-0. Make no mistake that’s what an ass whipping looks like up front. We couldn’t protect Julian yet again and our DL was getting pushed around too. Miami was getting 3-4 yards every single play and their QB was breaking our backs in timely fashion too.

That was easily the worst game plan of the year from Matt Patricia. I’m not sure why we played so far off because how many easy first downs did we give up where a WR catches the ball 1 yard past the marker?

Offensively my main issue will be the pace of play. Why are we playing like 2023 Michigan? This is an offense that has thoroughbreds at the skill position so what the hell are we doing having 8 minute drives?

We’ve debated this before but I’m insistent that you don’t want less opportunities for Smith and Tate.

Difference is Tennessee had the same layoff.
Agreed. Only way it benefits the team with the layoff is if the team playing in the first round has a star impactful player go down for the year. Because that’s obvious not likely (thank goodness) it’s a pretty good advantage to have momentum into the second round.
Sadly, it wasn't the first time Cristobal did that to him.
all coaches who are trenches or defense related give Day issues. Has to make us worried for TCUN going forward with Kyle.

Similar problem that CJ Stroud had. Can run but won't run. We have seen in the NFL that CJ can really run too.

I have no clue how good or bad of a runner Sayin is since we have barely seen it in game. There are YouTube videos of Sayin doing running jumping throws, he doesn't look that immobile or unathletic.
He’s absolutely capable of running. I think there should be 3-5 called QB runs every game. Who cares if they don’t go for 15 yards each but I think they can net 9-15 yards and 1-2 first downs.

Would sure be nice to have the zone read as an option again.

Well, I'm thankful for a new year (today) and much more.

I'm thankful for all the joy, pride and excitement the Buckeyes have brought into my life, and life of my family. OUr lives do not revolve around football, it's simply that we are fans, and it is something we enjoy.

I am looking forward to what this season brings. It looks to be a tougher schedule, which IMHO is much needed. Oregon, Indy, USC, Texas, Iowa will be tough games.

Will Sayin grow from this game and become a much better QB? Will the OL improve? Could St. Clair beat him out, is that a possibility? I'm not saying Julian isn't good, but will St. Clair have some things to say about who starts? Different and needed skill set? If Sayin learns valuable lessons from the last 2 games and improves off of this, he'd be hard to supplant IMHO.

Will ST become solid? How will the D do when we are losing some players?

The team needs improvement all around, and especially in the trenches.

Happy New Year to you all!
I'm going to see how the rest of the games play out, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be better to just take a few Ls during the season to avoid the first round byes unless something gets changed. Winning your conference and winning a natty might be incompatible now unless conference championships are done away with.

Having an existential moment where I realize “wasted” seasons with this type of talent hurts more as the road to a Championship and really the whole landscape of college (my favorite sport) will get tougher and tougher.
I don’t know if this was a wasted season. We beat a lot of bad football teams this year and vs the teams that didn’t cower we averaged 12 points a game.

When an entire unit (the OL) isn’t quite up to par that’s not really a wasted year. We were not the better team where it mattered and we couldn’t even win the big ten title because of the same issue.

This wasn’t 2019 devastation that’s all I’m saying. We just flat out weren’t good enough for the most important unit on the team.

Yup, this wasn't a dominant team that just had a flukey day. They aren't who we thought they were, pretty straight forward. This team team was closer to 2023 than 2019.

That’s exactly who we were good point. 2023 OSU.

Great defense and an offense that struggled with teams with a pulse.

I think the biggest lesson here is we can’t promote from within for OC unless you have a young Ryan Day type on staff. Hartline was never the answer there and you can’t promote people because you fear they’re going to leave. Shoot he left a year later anyway!

Need to go get an OC. A true head coach of the offense and IMO preferably one from the NFL.

Yes did you watch him the first few games? He needs to get better at reading the center to the field and throwing it away. But dude he was roughed up to end the season yes. But you're crazy to think a redshirt fresh through 78% completion should be sat for someone who hasn't done it for a full game.
I agree. Everyone loves the backup QB until they actually play. How many freshman/redshirt freshmen QBs have started for Ohio State besides Julian Saying, JT Barrett, Braxton Miller, Terrell Pryor and Art Schlichter? Pryor and Miller took over the starting position from Boeckman and Bauserman. I don't think anyone is comparing Saying to Boeckman and Bauserman. Statistically, Sayin had a better freshman year than all of them.
