2025-2026 Ohio State Men's Basketball

I’d say that we’ll have to step up quite a bit to keep Mobley and Bynum away from pretty big money elsewhere. Royal, not so much.
I get the sense that Mobley wants to come back. Bynum, I don't have confidence that he's coming back as he seemed very undecided yesterday. Of those 3 guys, Royal has the most obvious reason to leave with Thompson coming in at SF. Of course you want to have Mobley, Bynum and Royal all back, but everyone is year-to-year nowadays.

Supposedly OSU plans to hire a GM for the program now, which may be a good thing if that means they actually will have legitimate talent evaluation now.

My take is mostly about my perception of demand. I think Bynum will have a lot of serious suitors, Mobley a lot but not as many, and Royal considerably fewer than both of them. I have no insight into what they individually actually want to do.

I would say of the 3, Bynum would get the best NIL offers. Royal would get a lot higher interest in the portal than you might think - he was pretty consistently productive & makes solid contributions in multiple areas. Mobley this past season had kind of a boom-or-bust type game & I don't think he's going to be as attractive to coaches as he would be to fans.

Seem to recollect, every high school kid that got 'recognized' was a big scorer. Hardly ever (?) does a kid make 'Mr. Ohio Basketball' as a defender or assist maker. Gotta be a scorer. Recognize that at the collegiate level, players have 'roles', scorers score, tall people rebound and swat shots, etc. Anyone else watching the NCAA's and seeing the ball get passed around the court, and players take turns popping 3's? Maybe our guys don't move enough to 'get open' to be able to pop? Cupp was a Mr. Basketball, no? He is an excellent defender, and can dribble rings around you. He sometimes hits the three. Coincidence, dunno. At this level, everyone can shoot the ball. Else they play intra-mural basketball - like me.
