2024 NCAA tournament & bracket discussion

The Crown is the new tournament the B1G is contractually obligated to send their top-2 teams that don't make the NCAA tourney to, OSU turned it down & was not eligible for the NIT because it was either the Crown or nothing due to new B1G contract terms. I don't know if this played into the decision it all, and it may well have, but the college basketball transfer portal is March 24-April 22 & the Crown games are only played between March 31-April 6 this year.

I think the Crown is a stupid tournament. FOX thinks they needed to compete with ESPN having the NIT for some reason. So basically they decided to weaken the NIT and field a crappy tournament of their own in the middle of the transfer portal window. But that being said, as a competitor, take some pride in yourself and compete. I saw that no fewer than SIX B1G teams declined the Crown - OSU, IU, Iowa, Rutgers, PSU and Northwestern - in addition to some other programs like Kansas St, TCU and WVU. So the Crown ends up with 14-19 teams like Butler and DePaul because people don't want to play in the Crown. Obviously with the transfer portal being so big now, any postseason tournament needs to start right after the conference tournaments to help keep teams together a little bit.
