2024-2025 College Basketball General Discussion

So we're going to pretend like 25 win seasons are the norm at Ohio State outside of the Matta era? Ok.
Well Mike, even with COVID shortening seasons a bit, OSU has averaged slightly over 34 games per season the past 7 seasons. So if a typical (non-shortened) season is roughly 35 games, you would only have to go 25-10 to hit that mark, which is a 71% winning percentage, only slightly above what I believe to be the baseline expectation for OSU MBB (65% win rate). If they have only 34 games and need to go 25-9 to get there, that's a decent season at OSU but I would hardly think that should be considered abnormal.

Maybe you missed the point earlier. I said it was bad for OSU to not have 25 wins in ANY season over 6 years. Basically all you had to do to get there is have one clearly good season or even a slightly above average season. The baseline at OSU with all the cupcakes in nonconference now is about a 65% win rate, so all we really got in the Holtmann era was average- to below-average seasons. I wasn't saying 25-wins was the average expectation, just that it should happen once every few seasons. They didn't let Holtmann go for no reason, which is what you seem to suggest happened. Holtmann was underperforming, and everyone who's an OSU fan knows it.

but again, 25 wins isn't a realistic measuring stick for Ohio State hoops. Reading comprehension is key.

As for Holtmann, yeah he didn't get the job done. He also has the 2nd highest winning percentage in OSU hoops history

Realism is important. I really think you should try it sometime.

History says it's attainable in "good" years. Simply put, sit back and enjoy the ride and hope Diebs is more like Matta (and therefore a unicorn in OSU basketball history).....

It’s also that fun time of year. Random obscure small schools taking a beating.

Gotta give “Bible Studies” credit for scoring 90 points against Prarie View, though they still lost 111-90 and Mt Olive credit for 91 against UNC Wilmington though they lost 143-91

The beating of the opening day was Weber State with a 83 point win over NW Indian

There were also 2 82 point wins. Dartmouth over VT-Lyndon and South Carolina State over Morris
