2023 Ohio High School Playoffs

Alright, diving in....

D1
Shocked Medina upset Cleveland Heights, 21-20....especially since they played earlier this year and Medina had lost, 62-52. Maybe Medina is better now that Drew Allar is gone? 8D That goes down as a 6/2 upset
Springfield does it again with a 12 over 1 upset over Olentangy....they are the Miami Heat of OHSAA
Dublin Coffman with a 6/2 upset over Olentangy Berlin, 24-7
Upper Arlington with a 4/1 upset over Gahanna Lincoln
Moeller vs Lakota West looking real juicy next week

D2
Pretty dang chalk, there were some 3/2 'upsets' but no true upsets
Anderson vs Withrow another fun one next week...Cinci will be busy with top end matchups

D3
Chardon gets us going again with a 7/3 over Aurora
Bellefontaine with a 29-21 over Granville, another 7/3
Celina with the last upset, a 6/2, over everyones favorite - Tipp City Tippecanoe

D4
Struthers with a pretty big upset over Lake Catholic, 28-25....another 6/2
The above mentioned Kettering Alter upset that will get them Wyoming next week
Lots of close games though, competitive weekend in general...Glenville shaping up with a good battle against Sandusky Perkins

D5
Perry vs South Range next week, top tier game
Coldwater with the 6/2 'upset' over Edison....Coldwater vs Liberty Center next week, ooohweee, D5 is cookin!
Double upsets in R19 with Harvest Prep in a 4/1 over Ironton and Wheelersburg over Barnesville in a 7/3

D6
Kirtland vs Mogadore next week, that's a real cute matchup
Columbus Grove vs Bluffton next week, both teams probably peaking right now
Anna with another 'upset', over Tri-Village in a 8/5....those Anna Rockets are battle tested baby
Unfortunately they are up against Versailles next week where the fun will stop

D7
Patrick Henry upsets Hopewell-Loudon, 26-14, in a 5/1
McComb cruises so we get a rare 5/6 regional final...I'm a sucker for the McComb Panthers
Next week; 13-0 Marion Local vs 13-0 Ansonia, and yes I expect Marion Local to win but this may be their toughest test they get all playoffs

Regional finals next week.....D5 and D6 with some great matchups, Cincinnati has some heavyweight battles, there are always surprises and upsets along the way, the weather has for the most part been cooperative and will continue to be that way (hopefully)......the path to Canton will be figured out in a little over a week and a half. Enjoy!

Final 4's are set!

D1
St. Ed's vs Hilliard Bradley
Springfield vs Moeller

Springfield makes it as a 12 seed, looking for that 3rd straight title game appearance, but will be up against Moeller that is absolutely peaking right now, that's going to be an electric game. And yeah, Ed's will win the other game.

D2
Anderson vs Massillon
Hoban vs Avon

Oh baby, what a Final 4! Hoban will meet a very worthy title contender in the finals (sorry Avon), and I'm going Massillon still to take it all the way. All #1 seeds made it.

D3
TCC vs Chardon
Celina vs Bishop Watterson

Upsets make this happen as Chardon beat Ursuline and Celina also had a 6/1 in the regional finals as they took down Hamilton Badin. TCC looks unstoppable right now though and should see Bishop Watterson in the finals.

D4
Glenville vs Canton South
Steubenville vs Kettering Archbishop Alter

No real surprise here as the higher seeds won all, but Alter cruising 17-0 past Wyoming was impressive. Maybe the most balanced semi-finals next weekend imo.

D5
Perry vs Harvest Prep
Germantown Valley View vs Liberty Center

Another all favorites party as 3 of the 4 #1 seeds advance. Liberty Center gets past a 12-1 Coldwater 17-7, huge for them.

D6
Sugarcreek Garaway vs Kirtland
Columbus Grove vs Versailles

Absolute destruction in 3 of the 4 games, with 3 #1 seeds advancing. This may potentially lead to the title game I've most been hoping for (maybe, there are a few great ones) in Kirtland vs Versailles.

D7
Patrick Henry vs Marion Local
Dalton vs Caldwell

Patrick Henry wins over McComb, 40-39....a pair of penalties moved McComb's XP back to a 40 yard try and it was no good. Then Caldwell gets by, 20-10, over #1 Reedsville and then Marion Local....well, they won 48-0. If you're keeping score at home, that makes Marion Local so far in the playoffs 4-0 by a total of 168-7.

What games are you most looking forward to?

@bigdog3300
Do you have any idea where the sites for the games will be? And will the Semi-Final sites be different than the finals?

Also - the team that I’ve been following through this tournament is Cincinnati Anderson since we have some family friends who teach at the High School. They score like crazy. Averaging near 40 ppg in the playoffs.
I have no idea how many they’ll stack up with the Cleveland area teams, but I have a feeling they won’t get shut out.

@BigWoof31 - yes sir, see below. And yes, all state title games will be held in Canton. And the Raptors are very, very good - they are just unfortunate to be going up against arguably the best team in the state.

What a night it was....helluva lead in to today. Let's get to the results.....

D1
Springfield 26 - Moeller 19, OT
St. Ed's 26 - Hilliard Bradley 3

Well, well, well.....a 3rd straight year of Springfield vs St. Ed's. And Springfield as a 12 seed had no true gimme's the whole way. This one will go the same way the rest have tho, Ed's by double digits.

D2
Massillon 55 - Anderson 7
Hoban 17 - Avon 14

Shocked Avon kept it that close, shocked Anderson didn't keep it closer. Massillon is the best team in the state, not sure how competitive that game will be which is saying something with Hoban.

D3
Toledo Central Catholic 35 - Chardon 7
Celina 14 - Bishop Watterson 27

TCC is the defending D2 champion and should have no problem now becoming the D3 champion.

D4
Glenville 42 - Canton South 21
Kettering Archbishop 48 - Steubenville 0

Uhhh, didn't see that last one coming. Still, I will always roll with Glenville....to win their first state title ever last year and now go back to back would be amazing. They have some of the best jerseys in high school football and to me, the best damn chant in the land....BOOM, WHACK, THUD - TARBLOOD!

D5
Perry 22 - Winchester Harvest Prep 8
Liberty Center 14 - Germantown Valley View 10

Some good battles leading to the ultimate 15-0 vs 15-0.....I picked Perry to start and I'm not jumping off the pirate ship at this point

D6
Sugarcreek Garaway 0 - Kirtland 17
Columbus Grove 13 - Versailles 30

Again, another ideal matchup of the two best teams surviving to the title game. Both are truly battle tested and both recent state champs (Versailles 2021, Kirtland 2020) but Versailles has looked like the team to beat all year. Losing to Marion Local by 1 was enough to sell me here, Tigers roll.

D7
Marion Local 42 - Patrick Henry 0
Dalton 55 - Caldwell 7

Run the playoff record for Marion Local to 5-0 with a combined score of 250-7. Honestly, it's just wrong and bad for the division. Dalton is a great team, 14-1, their only loss being a season opening loss to D6 finalist Kirtland 14-7, and they are going to get completely bamboozled and potentially embarrassed in the state title game.

I'm feeling good about hitting on 6 out of 7 for my state title picks, hope you used them to call your local sharks!

Lastly, shout out to Spectrum - while they may be complete trash otherwise, they do the best job carrying the high school games.

Finals are set. All to be in Canton

Division II
No. 1 Massillon Washington (15-0) vs. No. 3 Akron Archbishop Hoban (13-1), Thursday, 7 p.m.
Can the Tigers finally win a state championship on the field?

Division VI
No. 1 Kirtland (14-1) vs. Versailles (13-2), Friday, 10:30 a.m.
MAC killer Kirtland vs the latest MAC team

Division III
No. 1 Toledo Central Catholic (15-0) vs. No. 4 Columbus Bishop Watterson (14-1), Friday, December 1, 3 p.m.
Can Watterson break through for a state title after coming up short so many times?

Division I
Springfield (10-5) vs. No. 1 Lakewood St. Edward (13-1), Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Will Springfield's storybook run continue?

Division VII
No. 1 Maria Stein Marion Local (15-0) vs. No. 5 Dalton (13-1), Saturday, 10:30 a.m.
By how much will Dalton lose? 30? 40? More?

Division V
No. 1 Perry (15-0) vs. No. 2 Liberty Center (15-0), Saturday, 3 p.m.
Probably the closest game to pick

Division IV
No. 5 Cleveland Glenville (12-2) vs. Kettering Archbishop Alter (12-3), Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Another tough one to pick

Can you watch the Springfield game online? Really want to see that one. I would say St. Ed's is the strong favorite, but I want to watch it...only takes one perfect storm and Springfield is hitting their stride right now.

I've been able to find most games with high quality streams on YouTube - I will try to link as much as I can once it gets closer.
