2021 NFL Draft (29 April 2021 - 1 May 2021)

Source: Ohio State's Justin Fields set for 2nd pro day; San Francisco 49ers expected to attend

Because of a scheduling conflict with another prominent pro day, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan were unable to attend Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields' first pro day on March 30. Now, as Shanahan and Lynch hoped and expected, they will get another chance.

Ohio State is slated to have a second pro day on April 14, providing another opportunity for teams, including the Niners, to see Fields in person, a source told ESPN. The Athletic first reported that Fields, who is in the conversation for the 49ers with the No. 3 overall pick, will be participating in the second pro day.

Shanahan and Lynch did not see Fields' first pro day because they were in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, watching quarterback Mac Jones and the rest of the Crimson Tide's group of NFL prospects. That was Jones' second pro day after participating in one earlier in March.

Although assistant general manager Adam Peters, college scouting director Ethan Waugh and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello represented the Niners in Columbus for Fields' first pro day, Shanahan indicated there would be a second opportunity for him to see Fields in person and that the details were being worked out.

As of now, all indications show Justin Fields will be the only Buckeyes player taken in the opening two rounds, drafted by the San Francisco 49ers with the third overall pick. Just last week, Kiper had Fields sliding to New England and being the fifth quarterback drafted in the first round. This week, he’s the third overall player and third quarterback picked.

Kiper and McShay only have Fields representing Ohio State in the top two rounds in Tuesday’s mock draft. But they do have three Buckeyes drafted in a late-third round barrage. First, Wyatt Davis going to the New York Jets at No. 86, followed by the Pittsburgh Steelers drafting Shaun Wade with the 87th pick. The Los Angles Rams are projected to use their 89th pick to grab Pete Werner, finishing off the run.

Josh Myers is the final Ohio State product projected to be taken in the top three rounds, drafted by the Baltimore Ravens with the 104th pick.

If Baron Browning, Pete Werner, Justin Hilliard and Tuf Borland all hear their names called during this weekend's NFL Draft, it will be the first time in Ohio State history that four linebackers were selected in one draft.

2006 NFL DRAFT
  • 1st Round, Pick 5: AJ Hawk, Green Bay Packers
  • 1st Round, Pick 18: Bobby Carpenter, Dallas Cowboys
  • 3rd Round, Pick 76: Anthony Schlegel, New York Jets
The 2006 NFL Draft is currently the gold standard for Ohio State linebackers classes with three players selected, all of which were among the top 76 picks with two selected in the top-20.

Why is Trey Sermon a projected Saturday pick? The kid ran over Northwestern and Clemson.
Is it his injury vs. Bama?

I can't wait to see how my Falcons screw this up. In my opinion the only options are to trade down or to take Fields/Lance at 4.
Pitts is a fantastic football player. Maybe the best tight end in years, but we can't draft him this year. We have to look to the future with a QB or amassing picks.

What did he do before NW?

Hell.....the coaches didn't even figure out he was killing NW until the 2nd quarter.

The dude (Sermon) was coming off a serious injury, in a new offensive system, behind a new offensive line, playing in a conference where they actually play defense, in disjointed/convoluted/clusterfuck of a COVID season. It shouldn't be surprising that it took a few games for him to get his legs under him and show what he's capable of.
