Unless they comically totally botched the COVID thing and lost all control of it. They should absolutely be able to play in a bowl game. You know theres one that would take them on name recognition alone.

They are tapping out of that all together it looks like, no other way to put it.

Bingo. This is quitting, plain and simple. It's obvious the players have quit on Hairball, no way he comes back next year imo.
