2020 Team Discussion Thread

A couple of SEC guys give their take on the Buckeyes. These are the dudes who do analytics during the year that are very similar to the stuff that I used to do back when I had time to do it (I may have that kind of time again soon... stay tuned).

There are people that don't like them; that's fine. But I know that there are others on this board that do appreciate what these guys do. My only issue with these guys really (judging them by the YouTube standard, not as national sports media) is that they care too much what other people think.

College Football Nerds is great. I watch their stuff whenever I can.

IT'S GONNA BE A GOOD YEAR. When it comes to Buckeye football, I'm more spoiled than any of those damn kids in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

In my nearly 26 years of life, I remember just two seasons Ohio State didn't win 10 games, and two seasons where the good guys didn't beat Michigan. So fair or not, every year I want my 10 wins and a win over Michigan like Veruca Salt wants an Oompa Loompa.

My college football brattiness has worked out just fine to this point, and I see no reason to make any changes.

Especially when ESPN's FPI pretty much guarantees me a satisfying season, giving Ohio State a better-than 90 percent chance to win 10 of its games, including The Game.

Looking at all of that, you're probably thinking "wow, what an easy schedule," but it actually ranks 29th of 130 teams – in about the 22nd percentile. Ohio State is just... very good.

Also, I'm probably burying the lede here – imagine being given just an 8.3 percent chance to beat your rival in the preseason. I don't care who the quarterback is or how many players graduated or went to the league, heads would roll in Columbus if things ever got that bleak.

I would like to see the Buckeyes perform well there just once before I die

Yeah, it probably would be at Purdue. Ohio State already has 5 B1G home games for 2020 and Purdue only has 4.

If they go that route, I would think that the B1G Commissioner would schedule "bus ride" 10th conference games where possible. Also, I think scUM at NW might work too, it's a 4 hour bus ride.

Below is a release from OSU addressing the development:

The Ohio State Department of Athletics has paused all voluntary workouts on campus following the results of its most recent COVID-19 testing of student-athletes. Seven teams’ workouts are affected by this pause: men’s and women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.

The university is not sharing cumulative COVID-19 information publicly as it could lead to the identification of specific individuals and compromise their medical privacy.

If a student-athlete tests positive for COVID-19, he/she will self-isolate for at least 14 days and receive daily check-ups from the Department of Athletics medical staff. Student-athletes living alone will isolate in their residence. If they have roommates, they will self-isolate in a designated room on campus.

The health and safety of our student-athletes is always our top priority.

OSU is but the latest FBS program impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Not good.

Ohio State has not provided a timetable for on-campus workouts to resume, but Bucknuts' Dave Biddle, who was first to report that voluntary workouts were being suspended, wrote that workouts will be on hold for at least one week, through July 15.

As of now, Ohio State has not announced changes to its schedules for football and other fall sports.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in May that he had hoped there would be clarity on the upcoming season by early July. That said, several other top decision-makers in college sports have indicated that decisions on the upcoming college football season might not come until late July or early August.

Would be surprised if there were sports in the fall...

FUCK FUCK FUCK
I was tempted to start a new thread to discuss Buckeyes and Covid specifically, but I think it is pointless. This just ain't going to happen. You can't come to a full stop every time there is a positive test or even an exposure. Can't believe we decided to risk CFB in a gamble to restart the economy.

What we will probably need is a thread to sort out the results of no season on eligibility and early departures.

Most talented team in my long life and and they are likely not to see the field.

And if I was going to do a FIFY on the post above it would be to add a couple hundred more "FUCKs".
