Correct – Dante “Gluefingers” Lavelli is the answer. Dante wore #33 for the Buckeyes in 1942. He didn't start the opener against Fort Knox due to a 'charley horse', and also saw limited action the next week against Indiana. Late in the next home game against USC, he broke a bone in his leg when he was hit while going up for a pass. That ended his season, and since he went into the Army after that, those 3 games were his entire career at tOSU. In 1941, freshmen weren't eligible to play.Dante Lavelli
Correct – Don Scott was an All-American in 1939 and 1940, and also played on the 1939 basketball team that made the first NCAA Tournament Championship Game. In the 1941 NFL Draft, held on Dec. 10, 1940, barely a year before Pearl Harbor, the Chicago Bears drafted Heisman winner Tom Harmon of TTUN #1 overall (as a halfback), and selected Don Scott as the #9 overall pick. Rather than head for the NFL, Scott volunteered to fight in Europe, entering the US Army Air Forces. He died in training when a B-26 Marauder bomber crashed in England on October 1, 1943. Exactly 1 month later, the recently opened Ohio State University Airport was christened as Don Scott Field.Don Scott
