If there was around 2:20 to 2:30 left it might have made sense, when the first down would win it for you without having to play defense for about 90 seconds. But they could have gotten that clock down way under a minute and relied on the defense.

Yep. Get it down to :30 or :40 after a punt and you’re looking at one or 2 tackles in bounds ending the game.
