More like because they almost beat Clemson last year. Their preseason ranking didn't do anything for Clemson, not that they need propping up. Maryland knocked the Orange out of the rankings by the time they played Clemson, and the Tigers are playoff bound whether Syracuse was 0-2 or 10th in the country when they played them.

They're the defending champs, still have Lawrence, no one in the ACC is going to beat them, and South Carolina is so great they lost to North Carolina.
