2019 tOSU Defense (Official Thread)

Eleven Warriors has a great column called "snap counts": tracks number of snaps for each game and the entire season. White only got 17 snaps vs. MSU.

A lot of it may have to do with the fact that Wade and Fuller rarely come off the field. Not sure they expected that at the beginning of the season. Both have been really solid. Wade played all 68 defensive snaps and Fuller was on the field for 59 of the 68.

Thanks a lot for mentioning this; I had no idea this was a feature of their content but it’s pretty insightful.

Here’s a link for anyone wondering about other particulars against MSU:

So, with the 4-2-5 (which I like) are linebackers just rotating at absurd rates at every spots? That snap count amongst the 4 is pretty proportionate.

I’m trying to think back to our alignments but it was hard to pay close attention since I was at a wedding.

Was Fuller the only safety a lot of the time then or does Wade drop back there? I thought we had more of Okudah/Arnette outside, Wade at slot with White and Fuller at S.

Once again leading the nation in sacks

O/U - Northwestern zero yards rushing Friday night?
I'll go over, but they won't get much. Northwestern is #80 in rushing offense, #125 in total offense, and #128 in scoring offense--out of 130 teams. Also, here's how they fared against the three B1G opponents they've faced so far:

So, if they even sniff 100 yards rushing and 10 points scored, I'll be highly pissed.

Northwestern is also 9th in the B1G in sacks allowed

I expect there to be a large number on Friday night, very possibly the most we will have seen all year
Not sure what the record for team sacks in a game is, but the record for most sacks in a game by one player is four...Chase might have a crack at that.

I'm pretty sure Bobby Boucher of the SCLSU Mud Dogs had 16 sacks in one game against W. Mississippi.

After this weekend's games, the defense is now #2 in scoring defense at exactly 8 ppg, just behind Bucky whose average went up to 7.57 ppg. The B1G also has the #3 scoring defense in the Pedsters at exactly 10 ppg.

What I love is that we have maintained that ppg average getting a lot of youngsters valuable reps. Opponents have not gotten much accomplished with the core starters in there. Building depth for the future.....love it.

Piggybacking on being the #2 scoring defense in the nation, the defense has shutout five of seven opponents in the second half (five of the last six actually), and aside from the opener against FAU, the defense has given up one single score in the second half the last six games (3rd quarter TD at Nebraska), and has completely shutout the last six opponents in the fourth quarter:
