2019 Speaker Question

Downsizing and there goes my surround system. I had Klepsch speakers purchased in 2005 with the wires fished through the walls to hide all the mess, but that was 14 years ago. What do you recommend today. I'm using a Yamaha amp, Sony Blue Ray DVD, Onkyo CD player - My taste in music runs to Jazz and Classical and so sound was important to me, but at 76 I'm wondering about my personal sound fidelity so maybe wired speakers aren't necessary any more. What do you guys recommend, wired or wireless, to replace the Klepsch

Which Yam amp do you have? I have a couple of them. The last one I got has the ability to do WiFi speakers which I did for the rear surround. They’re OK, but I still use wired Klipsch for front and center and sub. Have been pretty happy with them. They are small but they sound damn good. The WiFi speakers sound OK but it’s hard to tell as they are the rears. I do have another pair of Yam networked speakers in my office. They are also WiFi but since I have a network switch in my office I chose to run them wired. Very happy with them for casual listening. But... I listen to punk and a lot of SKA / 3rd wave SKA so my starting point may be a bit lower than yours.

Also have Bose cubes with sub for the basement 5.1, also wired and pushed through a Yam amp. Have been happy with them as well, but they were overpriced all things considered.

I’m guessing that you probably could go with something without wires and if you have the right Yam amp, it may be pretty easy to do. See if your amp is MusicCast compatible. I had the benefit of running that low voltage stuff when we built the house. Not having that ability, I’d probably opt for the wireless option as well. I’d probably be OK with the quality of the MusicCast stuff for the convenience of not having to run low voltage after the drywall was up.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. My godson, who recommended the Klipsch speakers and the Yamaha, set me straight on WiFi and the quality of the sound so i packed them up and they are going with us - will consider using WiFi to my office and kitchen.
