I agree with that, but we all know conference tourneys are about money. That said, Vermont lost to UMBC on their home court even though they knew they had to win.
Similarly, UVa knew they had to beat UMBC to play again tonight.
Win or go home.

did vermont win the conference title? you do know that vermont was not an at-large qualifier even before their conference tournament, right?

I think the point is regular season titles should mean more than getting hot for 3 days and winning a conference tourney, and I agree with it.
That said, they all know the rules. Fair or not, smaller conference bids are based on tourneys. Win or go home. UMBC won their bid.

i don't disagree, but when the word "should" is used for what determines ncaa tournament berths, well... umbc deserved to be in. they did what had to be done.
