2018-2019 B1G Men's Basketball (Official Thread)

Nebraska is in a sense the big winner in the B1G in terms of NBA draft decisions, as their big guns Palmer and Copeland are both coming back next year. Shouldn't be any excuses for Miles this time because they definitely have the talent to make the tournament.

WE'RE REALLY GONNA DO THIS AGAIN? At this time last year, media types were tabbing the basketball Buckeyes to finish as low as 13th in the Big Ten with nobody of note predicting first-year Chris Holtmann and his squad to finish in the top half of the conference.

Folks, they're at it again.

Look, I get it. Ohio State lost most of its contributors from last season, including the Big Ten Player of the Year, but we all saw what Holtmann did to a team that went 6-10 in the conference in like three months. You really want to pick him to finish 10th in the conference when he's had a full season to coach and recruit next year's team?

I'm not saying the Buckeyes will win the national title this season – they'll have to wait until next season for that – but doubting this squad after what we witnessed last season just seems a tad reckless.

Then again, I'm just a guy who puts words online.

So these rankings are Rothstein's opinion, right? Why should we care?

Buckeyes picked 8th in B1G by media poll. In a prediction sure to be wrong, MSU was picked 1st. Did Izzo pull the easiest possible schedule yet again? MSU was overrated last year, didn't even make the Sweet 16 yet again (actually they last made it to the S16 in 2015). The B1G could be open this year for a team like IU or UW to rise to the top. Purdue is toast - they have the league's best player, and a pile of dung. I honestly dont think MSU on paper is noticeably different from OSU, but the media fawns over Izzo at every opportunity because they are lazy and want to take the easy way out when making predictions. Nebraska IMO should be better than MSU this season.

I dunno if MSU is the top team but I think they should be near it with Winston, Ward, Langford, McQuaid, Tillman... They get some solid contributions from a couple of their freshmen like Loyer and Bingham and I think they are definitely towards the top of the conference.

I get your point about Nebraska and I think the Huskers should be able to field a really good starting line-up but I dunno if they are gonna have any quality depth to speak of. If they stay perfectly healthy they might be a Tourney team, but injuries and foul trouble are gonna be the plague for them.

Post play is a big question mark but scUM is loaded enough at guard and at the wing (and at head coach, lol) that I have to give them the edge to win the conference.

IU's roster also looks pretty stacked to me. I think scUM, IU, and MSU are most likely your top 3 in conference, with Wiscy and Nebraska possibly rounding out the Top 5.

Purdue is... interesting. They aren't lacking for pieces, but a lot is up in the air for them. I'd put us and the Boilermakers in pretty much the same boat.
