CFB Weekly Thread 2017 CFB Conference Championship Week Open Thread

I'm rooting for Georgia and Miami.
A Georgia win sets up Alabama nicely - in that scenario, there will be two one-loss SEC teams that haven't faced each other, so my guess is that the Committee will get them both in the playoffs. An Auburn win gives you a clear cut SEC champ with a win over Alabama and two wins over Georgia.

A Miami win (especially if narrow and/or controversial) leaves the door open for a two-loss Clemson team to make it in over Ohio State.

So, I'm going the other way in both games.

According to 538 it is irrelevant. I would go Georgia (anti-bama sched) and Clemson (Miami won't have an argument with us as a 2 loss).

If we handle our business the loser of the ACC game - even Clemson - has an issue. Getting beat the night before the selections probably won't go well for anyone.

That said, I'd be very surprised if Miami won.

I hadn't considered this, and have been playing scenarios for weeks. This makes a lot of sense.

I'm still not sure about it though.

Fair enough. I don't think any team that loses today is getting a CFP bid unless it's fluky. It's not the kind of impression you want to leave right before selections are made, especially with things being so close.

I can see your Auburn position, but if Georgia thumps them a week after Bama got rolled it doesn't look good for the Tide. I'll be surprised if Alabama is left out at all - I just don't trust the committee to treat "Alabama" like everyone else.

Big 12- Push

-TCU opens up another spot
-OU makes our loss look better (almost forgiveable... perhaps we'll get the "half loss" deal)

ACC-- Clemson

-Miami is definitely out with a loss
-Clemson, with their 1 1/2 loss deal, defending NC and whatever else they want to make up could be a problem if they lose.
-Also, if Auburn wins, it'll set up another rematch... putting Bama in would be yet another. Which I would assume they'd want to avoid

SEC-- Georgia (tho arguments could be made for Auburn)

-3 loss Auburn will not get in
-Georgia isn't in the same state as Bama (which seems worse to me), but it's still in the South.
-Bama losing to Auburn will look worse than losing to #2 SEC Champ (a reason we should root OU)

Don't forget about...

#25 Fresno State @ Boise State- 7:45pm

Louisiana Monroe @ FL State-- noon 14-0 Currently
