Finally watched the game on DVR, my recap (in random order as I typed it watching the game):
1) Joe Burrow: Think Joe is going to be a star here, I really do. Kid has "it." Really nice touch on his passes, gets the ball out quick and is plenty athletic enough to extend plays and move the chains. Really the ideal dual-threat and can make every throw out there...short, intermediate, deep ball. Sounds simple but he just puts the ball exactly where it needs to be...his accuracy is pretty remarkable. Only INT was off a circus play by Baker and his receivers had a few drops. QB controversy brewing (jk...but I do feel very confident in Joe if he has to step in).
2) Tracy Sprinkle: Really looks improved and has distributed his body mass out well. Really glad to see him having an impact and cool to see him come into his own.
3) Marcus Baugh: Love to see him get targeted and execute with the opportunities. Hoping to see him get plenty of targets this year, he looked fantastic out there. Sounds like Warriner really wants to get him involved and with him as TE coach, we might finally see our TEs get utilized.
4) Davon Hamilton: Really moves well out there and looks great physically. Just looks like a rock, sheds his blocks and very tough to move. Would love to see him contribute this year. Could easily mention Dre'Mont Jones here as well, he looked good.
5) Denzel Ward: Knew he was fast but man do I love how physical he played. Does not shy away from contact and plays with a ton of confidence.
6) Offensive Line: Tough to judge in the Spring Game since they are spread out but they definitely struggled. Not too worried though because that is typical in this game.
7) Mike Weber: Really good runner and extremely decisive, just blows through the hole. I was really impressed with him, you have to think he gets some carries this year. Also looked good blocking and picking up blitzes, which will go a long way.
8) Malik Hooker: Maybe the star of the game to me, incredible athlete and loves to play physical. It is abundantly clear why he has one of the spots locked down...I think he can play SS or FS, he has a very bright future here.
9) JT Barrett: Did not look that great but had a lot of pressure on him with the OL. Color me completely NOT concerned. It does look like he picked some zip up though, some of those passes were coming in hot.
10) Torrance Gibson: Can't be much more excited about any play than TG. Amazing athlete that is developing into the position but he is going to play a lot this year, mark it down. You just have to get him on the field...split him out, put him at wildcat, I don't care, just get him playing. Btw, the Burrow to Gibson TD made me absolutely giddy to see come to fruition.
11) Jashon Cornell: Have to mention him, looked great imo. Really, really disruptive and quick. He is in the backfield a ton.
12) Terry McLaurin: Really showed out well and looks like a nice deep threat. Dropped the first pass but easily made up for it. Really exciting player.
13) Parris Campbell: Had some really nice plays out there and you can tell he is a great athlete.
14) Halftime skills challenge: Cracked me up seeing JT vs. Cardale in the longest throw competition. Love to see that they are so tight and reminds me of how much I love Cardale Jones and what a great Buckeye he is...really hope he finds success at the next level.
15) Jerome Baker: Really ran around well and no need to even address that ridiculous INT, except to say he did the same thing in practice but ran it back for six. Freak athlete who is only going to get better as he bulks up more. He is going to play a lot of meaningful minutes this year.
16) DT: The position I think we are all most anxious about. Saw some great flashes out of the guys there and I feel a bit better now. Would've liked to see some more of Landers but everyone else really stepped up and looked good there.
Overall: Fun game to watch and excellent crowd. We have a TON of talent, we're fast and we are hungry. Also keep in mind that a lot of our big players for this year were out today, so just look at individual performances and I think there is plenty to be excited about. This team is going to be a lot of fun to watch.
