Wins over Wiscy (who lost to tOSU that year) and KS ST. make a team great? Sorry fellow Buckeye but no. Kelly had a nice run (great, no) but lost to any team that punched them in the mouth. Like Boise St., twice. And of course the Buckeyes, twice. (And that just feels like something that should never had to have been said.)
What you're telling me is unless a team goes undefeated and wins the NC, they aren't great, because that's literally the only thing they didn't accomplish during their peak. As Ohio State fans who lived in the 90's, we should have an appreciation for how hard that is to do. It doesn' mean we didn't have great teams.
And yeah, winning the Rose Bowl over a Russell Wilson led UW team and a Fiesta Bowl over an 11-1 Kansas State team qualify as big wins in my book.
Other notable wins include:
2010 Stanford by 20+ points(led by Luck, they would go 12-1 and win the Orange Bowl finishing #4)
2011 Stanford by 20+ points(also led by Luck, they would go 11-2 and finish #7)
2014 Michigan State by 20+ points(who would go 11-2, win the cotton bowl and finish #5)
2014 Florida State in the Rose Bowl by 39!(led by Winston, it snapped their 26 game win streak)
Oregon's final ranking:
2009 #11
2010 #3
2011 #4
2012 #2
2013 #9
2014 #2
There's no shame in losing at a good Boise St team, or that loaded 2011 LSU team, or to us in 09 and 14. Why cheapen two of our biggest wins this century? Again, unless your definition of great is winning the NC, they were great.
