2015 Week 9 CFB Open Thread

Minny had 461 yards of offense in that game

scUM had 296

Minny was far and away the better team all night regardless of scUM QB

that was a bad play of the odds regardless of the imbecilic play calling
Which means jack shit. How many times have teams going into OT with the momentum have ended up shitting the bed in OT? You have the ball, first and goal at the half yard line with 19 seconds and a TO. If you can't punch the ball in on two runs from a foot and a half out you don't deserve to win...

that's all just gut and assumptions

I've seen just as many teams take "momentum" into OT and actually have shot their emotional wad to tie it up and send it there

You are at home and have outplayed the opponent all day. The opponent is down to his backup QB.If you are afraid to play those odds you don't deserve to win.

The only thing I would say is that after the epic fuck up of taking 17 seconds to have an incompletion, I would have kicked the FG. But if they would have been smart with the clock and had 2-3 real plays, I could see going for the win. Because unlike what you said, they only gave themselves one chance to run it for 1.5 yards, not two.

I could see going for it if they had a better play dialed up than trying to force it through the middle of the Michigan DL. That hadn't worked all day. I would've kicked the FG.

I've seen plenty of instances where an inexperienced QB wilts under the pressure in OT. Look at Purdue @ OSU 2012. That Purdue QB was playing above himself all game until OT. I couldn't tell you which games but around that time I noticed it happening in some others. I don't think it's unusual at all, especially on the road in a raucous environment.

They wanted 6 but they absolutely had to have 3. If they had gotten themselves in a 4th an 5 situation at the 10 yd line, do we all agree that the FG would be the right move? I don't think that's all that much different a scenario under the circumstances.

Incidentally, before they shifted on that second-to-last play I thought it liked running option right would've gone in for an easy score.

To be clear I am saying the same as the bolded part. I would obviously not have just run down and kicked the FG on 1st down with 17-18 seconds left.

Once I had completely screwed the pooch however and still had 2 seconds on the clock but no TO I kick for all the reasons I have stated previously, odds are still in my favor.

Posted this in the shenanigans thread, but it probably belongs here.
Anybody happen to catch the three scUM linemen offside on the final play?

I'm not sure what the rule is here. Because the ball should be at the 1/2 yard line. You can tell the defenders are behind that, but the ball was moved up by the center. I'm assuming by rule it's not where the ball is moved to by the center but rather where it was initially?
