2015 Week 6 CFB Open Thread

I know we only played So Carolina, but it was nice to see LSU balance things out a bit on offense yesterday.

Once he got into a rhythm, Brandon Harris looked capable of leading this offense if he's ever asked to do so.

the stable of backs behind Fournette are good. really good.
Guice looks like a stud but has to take a back seat to the best RB I've ever seen in purple and gold.

defense still seems to be looking for an identity. they'd not bad, just not at the level your typically expect from LSU.

special teams is fucking horrendous. and that is being nice.
this unit might end up costing us a tight game before the season is done.

Fournette ended the day with "only" 158 yds but did not play from mid 3rd on.

Just feel [Mark May]ty for Nick Chubb. Great kid and good student. Hoping he makes a full recovery.

Any doctors on BP? Chubb tore his PCL, which apparently isn't as bad as an MCL/ACL tear? Any reason why that is?

Not a doctor but I tore my ACL years ago, and became very familiar with what was what in the knee. Here's the skinny:

The Anterior Cruciate Ligament allows the knee to withstand the torque when planting, cutting, twisting, and changing directions. Running backs generate a lot of torque on their ACLs. See what happened to Jamaal Charles yesterday (torn ACL) and you'll see what I mean.

The MCL allows the knee to flex from side to side, and keeps the knee from bending inward. MCL sprains are more common from direct injury (taking a hit to the side of the knee).

The PCL has basically the same function of the ACL, just from the Posterior (rear). the only difference is that the leg doesn't normally bend that way (unless you're Chubb, or Joe Theissman). It's less likely that you will receive a hit or have an injury like the one Chubb took on Saturday.

PCLs are a bit easier to recover from because they aren't used as often as the ACL, which is torn when the knee is twisted or over torqued.

You don't need an ACL or PCL to run straight line. You do, however need both to play running back, as both take the torque of planting and cutting.
