Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I think both teams will move the ball too.

However, if all you got as a rejoinder is "The B1G is weak/your SOS sucked", you're not bringing much to the table here. And fuck the eye test - the eye test would have Baylor AND TCU in the playoff and not Ohio State or FSU. There's much more to it than an eye test. The eye test would have had UGA playing Cryami in 2002 instead of Ohio State. Instead we were treated to one of the greatest games ever.

Straight statistical analysis shows the trend. That's not an eye-test problem, that's Alabama's defensive problem.
If you want to stick to stats, which as I said before, I don't want to, then you have to see that bama didn't let most of those teams score many points.

Did I say otherwise?

Yes.

You said they haven't stopped anybody with a good offense. I say not allowing them points is a stop, even if they get a bunch of yards.

That's what my point was. My other point is those stats aren't overly meaningful. Each team played represents different match ups that can make them easier or more difficult to defend.

Again. We will have to wait for the game. It looks like OSU will be able to pass deep. I think that's all we can say right now.

No.

You said they haven't stopped anybody with a good offense.

And I'm right. The 3 best offenses Bama played this year all out-gained them and Bama did (which I just found) give up an average of 30.67 points in those games. Again the stats do not lie.

I say not allowing them points is a stop, even if they get a bunch of yards.

Whatever makes you feel better I guess. Just don't be surprised if Ohio State is able to move the ball almost at-will like Auburn did. Ohio State's offense is deeper, has better backs and more quality receivers and if Jones can throw the ball and be accurate doing so, he's a better passer than Marshall is....The only real difference is Marshall is a superior runner.

I think oSU will move the ball too. But look at who psu played to get their great defensive ranking. That's the type of stuff I'm talking about. I think the eye test is all you can use.

It looks like jones can throw it deep. It looks like bama can't defend deep throws. Osu should be able to throw deep.

The running games are a wild card. I don't think we can know what will happen there for either team. Sometimes we just have to wait.

Top-20 run defenses in conference: #1 PSU, #7 MSU, #15 TSUN, #17 Wiscy

Future NFL running backs they faced
PSU: Eze, Coleman, Langford
MSU: Freeman, Eze, Coleman, Abdullah (plus Mariota)
TSUN: Eze, Coleman, Langford, Cobb
Wiscy: Eze, Cobb, Abdullah (borderline: Fournette)

Now outside of Gurley (who Alabama didn't play) and the 2 RBs that play for Alabama... there's not much there. Marshall is probably the best runner in the SEC West and he's a QB. Tennessee, Florida, WVU, Florida Atlantic, Southern Mississippi... not seeing much there. Maybe Western Carolina's RBs are future Hall of Famers?
Every one of those teams has seen better RBs than Alabama - including #1 rush defense PSU.

When looking at three games, an average isn't reasonable.

If you think OSU looks like auburn. That's fair. You've watched them more than me. I think they look like Mississippi state with better receivers. MSU moved the ball, but couldn't score. Will the better receivers make a difference? We'll see.

Again whatever makes you feel better. All you guys got is conference crap and excuses. We'll just have to see what happens.

If you're going to use stats, don't get pissy when stats don't show what you want them too. There are lies, damned lies and statistics.

There is no reason, statistically, to compare Ohio State to Ole Miss (#40th in total offense). Ohio State is clearly better. There is a reason, however to compare OHio State to Auburn, WVA and Miss State, they are all somewhat in the neighborhood as Ohio State statistically.

Not much there in terms of elite rb's. You're rught. Fournette is very good. Arkansas is a very good running team, but you could stack the box against them like you could lsu. Tennessee had Dobbs, who tore bama up because they didn't know he was going to play and didn't have tape.

Mississippian state had a good running attack. Auburn too. Bama stopped those teams in the red zone.

Ohio state looks much better than West Virginia to me. I disnt compare Ohio state offense to ole miss unless the autocorrect went nuts on my phone.

People stacked the box against Abdullah, Gordon, Coleman, and Cobb all year... and they still produced.
Robinson couldn't hold their jock straps.

I didn't say you did. I did say, however, that it made no sense to compare Ohio State to Ole Miss. And yes, Ohio State is much better than WVA. They're better than Miss State and Auburn too and unlike Auburn, they play something akin to defense or at least try too.

once is an aberration. Two times is perhaps a couple bad games. Once you start seeing something show up 3 times in the same season, like we see here with Alabama, you start seeing a trend. It's pretty clear statistically that Ohio State will likely move the ball and that Alabama will have issues stopping them. Whether or not that translates to points we'll just see.

And you'll notice, no one here really gives a ratfuck about Ped State

i don't think Alabama gave up a bunch of points three times this season.

I agree OSU will move the ball. Bama may be able to make them settle for FGs though. I think we finally agree. We just use different ways to get there.

I also haven't once said the sec is a better conference. I said Alabamas SOS is better base on the rankings, but I don't necessarily trust that stat, like many others.

OSU is ranked 50th in passing offense and Ala is no.2 in the nation in rush defense. Besides MSU and WI, did you guys play a ranked team?
Alabama played Ole Miss, MS, AR, LSU, and Auburn, all ranked teams. And for the record, I think Aub has a better offense than tOSU....but you guys have the better D. I may have to eat my words but I don't see tOSU putting up a lot of points on the no. 4 scoring defense in the country.
