Game Thread 2015 Sugar Bowl: (1) Alabama vs. (4) Ohio State, Jan 1st @ 8:30p ET, ESPN (civilized thread)

I watched the ones I listed but not your two. How would you compare your defense to last year?

Safety about even.
CBs - this year. mostly the same guys only slightly improved.
Linebackers - we are deeper this year with a lot of guys like Ragland who are going to be stellar next year but last year had CJ Mosley and you just don't replace a guy like that in one year. So ill say last year here.
DL - This year is probably Saban's deepest and most talented.

And IMO that's a difference between us and the SEC in that there isn't a great need for running backs there because for the most part the weather behaves all season and you can throw the ball more effectively than throwing in 20 degree weather.

I think Alabama has the two best backs in the SEC and while neither are the home run threats in Gordon/Coleman they present a great challenge.

Id love for zeke to post the first 100 yard game on bama but it'll be tough to do.

We get them in the last regular season game. If they have a good record and we beat them, it only helps us.
I was referring specifically to the part where you said "only if" it helped strength of schedule. What you're saying means that it helps for the schedule every single year. Therefore you want them to have a good record every single year, not just in specific years.

Thanks for your input and I'm not trying to be a dick but some of what you said makes no sense. Teams have been throwing on your defense yet you say the safeties are better and the corners are roughly the same. Then you say the defensive line is the deepest ever. If your secondary is overall improved and your line is deep why has there been significant challenges this year giving up the pass? Common sense tells me you either aren't as good in the back end or you aren't as good rushing the passer. You can't be better at both yet be worse

Trust us, against Ohio State, the refs won't win the game for OSU. Teams get called for the least amount of penalties when they play OSU. Nevermind that our D-line is held glaringly almost every single play. Hell even the most famous "gift" the refs gave Ohio State was due to a non call by the refs in the first place in the 4th quarter. (OSU/Miami)

Because we had problems giving up passing yards the year before. It wasn't a fluke that Oklahoma lit up our secondary in the Sugar Bowl last year. Look at how many different WRs he threw too. How short his average was. It was a great plan by Stoops, drop back and get the ball out fast to a bunch of WRs that were always open. Its the same CBs on the field this year as last year. They are SLIGHTLY improved. I keep saying words like slightly, comparatively, as well as that CB is still our weakest unit and that we don't have a shut down corner etc, etc. Im not sure why its so tough to understand.
