2014 Week 6 B1G FB Open Thread

don't be daft...if he is in the process of making a catch and going down he has to maintain control just like in the NFL. if he had been in the middle of the field and his knee was contacted down before he lost the ball he'd be down. but he wasn't down..he went out of bound and the NFL rule is clear. you go down with the ball you must come up with the ball. as I said, I thought the college rule was identical.

That's the right idea, I'm not even sure that's completely correct. If he catches the ball in the middle of the field and he goes down, even if his knee touches first, he still has to maintain control of the ball through falling down. From what I saw, the scUM player only brought down both feet after making the leaping catch, but didn't really take another step after that, so when he fell it was still "in the act of making the catch." Another step up field would have probably have been enough to turn him from being a "receiver" to a "ball carrier" which would mean you go in to the "ground can not cause a fumble" rule.

As I saw it, I think it was a good call.

screw scUM anyway.

Holy shit. That downfield block by #83.

Wish Devin Smith and Michael Thomas would do that. Dontre would have 6 or 7 TDs if those guys wouldn't hang him out to dry after 15 yards.
