I am almost certain that if you go to the ground you have to maintain control. I think the call is correct. I thought that was one of the rules that was in play in both the NFL and NCAA.

don't be daft...if he is in the process of making a catch and going down he has to maintain control just like in the NFL. if he had been in the middle of the field and his knee was contacted down before he lost the ball he'd be down. but he wasn't down..he went out of bound and the NFL rule is clear. you go down with the ball you must come up with the ball. as I said, I thought the college rule was identical.
