The radio guys were totally wrong on this one. They were saying the US fans should root for a draw...screw that, we want an old school Kraut beatdown. If we beat Ghana and just draw with Portugal now, their WC is over based on GD, barring a US player going Zidane or Portugal scoring 6 or 7 against Ghana.6:0 please.

Me too...but we don't have to beat them. Hell we don't even have to draw them. Just keep it close and take care of business in the other 2 games. What I don't want is it coming down to needing points against Germany...ugh.So impressed with the Germans. Yikes.
Agreed. Even if you set aside the practical disadvantage of a hugely negative goal difference, there's the potential for them to feel and act defeated before they even step on the pitch in their next game. Short of Ronaldo being unavailable in the next game this is the best possible outcome we could have hoped for from this one. It certainly increases the margin for error this evening. A draw of their own doesn't put the US out of it.
Yeah I'm not trying to go all Klinsmann or anything, but I just subscribe to the second place in the group motto: beat who you should beat and don't get killed. Goal differential is now our friend...just need to frustrate Portugal early, and then...well, they will go all Portugal. Win tonight and we are in great shape.Welp, I dunno about feeling defeated, but, they've just been humiliated. And now they onus will be on them to respond to that, which is going to make things a lot harder. If you can add to their frustration level it makes our life easier.
As to needing a point from Germany, certainly that's best avoided but, my guess is, if we're in that spot, the Germans won't need a result of any kind by then.
