2014 B1G Discussion & Division Races

Might be time for a "2014 Big Ten Season Discussion" thread. For now, I'll place this here...

Brett McMurphy ‏@McMurphyESPN 12m
Northwestern RB Venric Mark transferring & senior starting WR Christian Jones (knee) out for season
Add in the loss of the Dowell twins and it ain't looking good for Pat Fitzgerald the last 3 weeks.

Meanwhile, Twitter's take:
Tom Fornelli ‏@TomFornelli 9m
The good news for Northwestern is neither the Mark transfer or Jones injury will keep the basketball team from missing the NCAA tournament.

Wasn't Mark named to the Big Ten "leadership team" or something like that? Sounds like a true leader, bailing on his team after getting slapped on the wrist by Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald also lost WR Christian Jones (54 catches, 12.4 average, 4 TDs) for the season. Knee injury. Time to sell Northwestern shares.

Sorry--I can't find his statement in which he didn't disagree with the suspension. Link?

I italicized "he" because while it says it's a quote from him it was more than likely written and released by someone in the PR department - especially since now he's bailing.

“I made a mistake and am prepared to deal with the consequences of that,” said Mark. “There’s no one that holds me to a higher standard than the one I hold myself to, so nobody is more disappointed than I am. First and foremost, I feel like I let my teammates down, and that feels the worst. I’m grateful to have another season to compete with this team. My focus moving forward is on working as hard as I can in camp and supporting my teammates in practice and on gamedays so that we can achieve our goals this season.”
