There's some really stupid calls, but if we're talking about the same one I don't see anything stupid about it. Seems pretty logical to require a runner to, I don't know, have the ball?

It's a dumb rule because you should not have a turnover without the defense touching the ball. A fumble that goes out of bounds in the field of play is retained by the offense at the point of the fumble. The end zone shouldn't make any difference. It's a dumb rule. It's the worst rule in all of football and there's no reason for it. But it is the rule and it was the right call in this case. Not sure there was enough video evidence for the overturn and it was a bad move on the player to try to extend like that. 1st and goal from the 1 or 2 is a pretty good place to be.
