2013 Week 3 B1G FB Open Thread

Questionable pass interference preserves the win vs ND.

Pass interference call sets up game winning TD.

Laughable lack of measurement, then review after running off time strips Akron of valuable time.

Blatant helmet to helmet ignored as well as pass interference to end the game.

All in Michigan's favor. All preserving victories.

Good teams find ways to pay officials in close games.

Horrific officiating benefits scUM again. But, Akron's even more horrific clock management is what ultimately cost them that game. Let down game or not, there is no excuse for a low-level FBS team like Akron taking any m*ch*g*n team down to the wire. A let down game is excusable if they pulled away when they went up 21-10. That excuse is out the window when you let a team full of players that shouldn't even walk-on to your program take the lead back in the 4th quarter, and then nearly drive for a win as time expires. Not to mention your supposed "heisman candidate" qb turning the ball over 4 times two weeks after two bad INTs against another scrub team. That's a very flawed team, and much of it falls on the fat man and his staff for failing to, first prepare for, then recenter themselves against a very bad football team.

This isn't a new thing. Obviously there are the standout Appy State and Toledo abortions, but remember, UMass was in a very similar position against the a couple of years ago. Urban preaches "recruiting kids that would choke you over a game of checkers". DickRod, and now Hoke, want kids that are twitter superstars. I'll take our approach.

The last play of the game was 4th down. The time wasn't what cost them the game, or the refs (although they didn't help). It was the playcall on 3rd and half a yard. A pitch? Really?

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking the pitch play was second down. They still tackled #11 when the ball was in the air on that last play. And they still should have put the time back on the clock regardless. I'll be interested to see if scUM drops in the polls like we surely would.

ND just tied it at Purdue, 17-17. These are the same Boilermakers who got their asses handed to them by the Juggalos 2 weeks ago, 42-7. They're also the same Boilers who will play their best game of the year when the Buckeyes come to town.
