2013 Week 12 CFB Open Thread

A little bit of history....

On November 8, 1975, the Oklahoma Sooners were the defending national champions and riding a 37-game unbeaten streak. As the number one team in the country, they were playing the lowly Kansas Jayhawks at home, a team that they had beaten ten times in a row. Well, Kansas went into Norman and spanked the Sooners, 23-3. (I remember that game, because the Oklahoma loss allowed Ohio State to claim the top spot in the polls).

The point is, even great teams can lose to mediocre teams, and upsets often happen late in the season (think back to 2002 for some more examples that benefited Ohio State). I'm not saying that Alabama or Florida State should be placed on upset alert, but anything can happen.

I think Bama is more likely to lose than FSU, given who they have left to play. However, we've also seen it can take TWO losses to knock "the SEC" out of the BCS title game in recent years.

I hate what the BCS has done to football. Fans are too busy worrying about "style points" to enjoy what made them fans in the first place - victory.

Temple being Temple, giving up a 70 yard pass in a tie game with 20 seconds left. UCF kicked the game winner the next play.
