That must explain why they're televised more than anyone, then. They'd definitely not want the most popular team on TV the most.

If you want to talk about most popular teams and your sentence doesn't begin with Montreal you're deluding yourself. Toronto as well. The Penguins aren't even the most popular American team either - Philly, NYR, Boston and Chicago are all just as popular but in much bigger cities. Detroit and the Caps are right with the Penguins IMO.

But go ahead and be a Penguins fanboy numby

I disagree because I can't see why the networks would televise a less-popular team more than any other team, but I'm done with this debate because trying to convince you to say anything positive about the Penguins is as likely as me fucking an alien from an unknown world.

EDIT: Also, you say those teams are as popular in bigger cities, the ratings for the opening night games disagree strongly.

Just being realistic - notice I'm not even debating that Crosby is the most popular player. He is and it's not even close. But popular players get on TV, popular teams fill arenas. It's about knowing the league outside of one team and fanbase. And don't confuse vehemence with overall popularity, Pittsburgh doesn't win there either - one of the Canadian prairie teams likely would or Trashville.

But I'm done too - viewing anything objectively as a Penguins fan when it doesn't mean they are #1 in something is beyond most Penguins fans when they are 2-0

Yes, because that is only a trait of Penguins fans. Definitely not a trait of Red Wings fans. Or any other good team's fanbase.

They're televised as much as they are because they're an east coast team that employs Sidney Crosby. I'm not a Flyers nor Penguins fan but I watched them play on Saturday.

Exactly my point. Popular players get on TV more often. Back in the late 90s, the Rags were on TV damned near every fucking weekend because of Gretzky. He couldn't do shit at the time due to the era the NHL was in, but he was still on TV all the friggin time. Same thing here.

Did I say any differently? Please don't copy the Pedsters and fight every simple criticism like it's a personal insult....

Comparing me to Pedsters seems like the logical way of getting me to do that.

I edited that before you said it. And I'm aware of that fact. That doesn't mean the Pens aren't extremely popular. There is a big bandwagon. I stand by what I said. I've seen them play in three different arenas and the Pens fans in attendance has been impressive everywhere. There is no study, so there is no way to tell.

I'm mainly just messing. You'd be sending out search teams for me right now if you were truly acting like a Pedster.....

But the original point remains in this silly debate. Saying the Penguins aren't the most popular team in the US or the NHL for that matter (and I know you know better than that) isn't an insult, it's just knowing the lay of the land.

I didn't take that as an insult.

I don't really care who is the most popular team, I just think they are. If they aren't, BFD. I get pissed off in hockey debates on BP easily because of all the ones in the past. You and Tony have managed to give me a very short fuse on here. :p

I'm trying to be as even-handed as I can be this year when it comes to hockey. I think the game is in a transitional period and as a fan, I need to transition as well....

Hell Tony ignores me too

Don't be too even-handed.. it can get you in trouble. I've found that thinking Joe Flacco is a better NFL QB than Troy Smith is a sin punishable by death.
