2012 South Regional discussion

Can't believe I stayed up to watch THAT ending.

"Correct" call or not you don't blow the whistle in that situation this time of year. Jesus fucking christ we don't watch these games because we're rooting for the officials.

Oh My God. Another lane violation call costs Notre Dame the game. Wow. I cant believe they called that when the game is on the line with 2 seconds left and a 2 point game.

Ballgame. X wins. Im happy they win but the way it happened puts a sour ending on a fantastic day.

So what other rules are the refs supposed to ignore with 2 seconds left in a 2 point game? Traveling? Double dribble? The sidelines and baselines?

The replay showed it was the correct call.

I've seen that same play 1,000 times go uncalled. None of the previous 1,000 meant NEARLY as much as that play.

shutup Chuck...

I hate when people say that....so basically just because it's less than 5 seconds left, you can cheat?

bah. It's tough. I can't really argue against it or for it without feeling conflicted.

I just hate seeing a game like that end in such a fashion.

The head of NCAA officials said yesterday that players crashing the lane from outside the arc is a point of emphasis at the end of games. He said that teams which are behind will frequently do this to get an edge on rebounds in case of missed free throws. It was absolutely the correct call and should be called. Teams shouldn't be allowed to cheat simply because there isn't much time on the clock.

It was the correct call technically, but they very rarely call it when the FT goes in. Clark Kellogg took too long to notice that the call was on the guy outside the 3-point line; and then he explained it incorrectly, saying the guy can't go in until after the ball is released, when the rule is that he can't go in until the ball hits the rim or the backboard. After the 'Cuse game yesterday, he should have been on top of that rule.

The intentional foul was clearly a good call, holding the jersey before the ball was thrown in; even though Barkley was bitching about that one also.

The over the backboard call was also correct, although meaningless in a 4-point game with .1 seconds left.

But it was entertaining to see 3 rare calls all go against the Domers in the last 2.8 seconds, escpecially since it was after midnight and officially St Patrick's Day.

Correct ruling but a blown call.

I think you call it had the shot not gone in. Don't get me wrong, I was rooting for X as much as anyone here... but you let them play in that situation.

The notion that officials are supposed to stop enforcing the rules in the latter stages of games cracks me up. I've heard the "let the players decide it" line a million times and yet by not doing their jobs the officials would be, in fact, deciding it.

It was an obvious call. It would've been ridiculous for the refs to look the other way because it was late and the score was close. Here's an idea, maybe the players shouldn't commit violations with the game on the line?

I think VCU-Kentucky would be far more intriguing than Indiana-Kentucky as a Sweet 16 match up so I'm pulling for the Rams tonight.

VCU leads 42-41 at halftime.
