Ohio Class Of 2012: Early Top 20 | Ohio State Buckeyes College Football Recruiting, OSU Big Ten Football, OSU Basketball – Bucknuts.com

Posted by Duane Long on Aug 17, 2010 at 04:20 pm

Bill Kurelic released his latest early bird Ohio top 10 list for the class of 2012 over the weekend. I thought I would do him one better and release my early bird top 20 for the state.

Keep in mind that we have two more years for this class to show on the field. We are talking about very young players. They are headed into their junior year. Many of them are just now getting their driver's license. This list could be quite a bit different by the time it matters. It could be quite a different by this time next year.

The class of 2012 is so impressive that it will definitely be one of the best ever in the state of Ohio. The defensive line class is one that Florida or Texas would love to have, especially the defensive ends. It is a great looking running back class, and I see the beginnings of a good offensive line class. I think the quarterbacks need to be watched.

1. Adolphus Washington, DE/LB, 6-5, 245, Cincinnati Taft. We throw around the word freak a lot now. This kid is a true freak.

2. Chris Wormley, DL, 6-5, 250, Toledo Whitmer. I had Wormley originally ranked in the top five but seeing him in a t-shirt and shorts is what pushed him up this high. No question he is better than his teammate Kenny Hayes.

3. Warren Ball, RB, 6-1, 195, Columbus DeSales. He will be in the argument for top back in the country.

4. Bam Bradley, FS, 6-2, 200, Trotwood-Madison. As good as any safety I have ever seen in Ohio. Big, physical and athletic. Could grow into a linebacker.

5. DeShawn Hall, Athlete, 6-2, 205, Canton Glen Oak. I list him as an athlete because up close he looks like he is sure to grow into a linebacker.

6. Kaleb Ringer, LB, 6-2, 225, Clayton Northmont. The lack of conversation about Ringer is surprising. You think Trey DePriest is the best linebacker in the state? Take a look at Ringer's film before you answer that question.

7. Greg McMullen, DE, 6-5, 235, Akron Hoban. That a player of this caliber is not in the top five shows the strength of the class. Playing with two healthy hands could push him to the top of this list.

8. Tom Strobel, DE, 6-6, 235, Mentor. Strobel is the best defensive line prospect that nobody knows about. He has the best body outside of Wormley.

9. LaTroy Lewis, DE/LB, 6-4, 230, Akron Hoban. We have been talking about McMullen for so long that nobody is looking to the other end of the line where this Big Four-caliber prospect is as high on recruiting boards as his much more-ballyhooed teammate.

10. Kyle Kalis, 6-5, 305, OL, Lakewood St. Edward. Kalis is looking like the best offensive line prospect from Ohio since Marcus Hall. Yes, he is a tackle.

ESPNU 2012 Watch List features more than 300 prospects - ESPN

Zeke Pike (Edgewood, Kentucky/Dixie Heights)
When it's all said and done, Pike will be in the running as the top quarterback in the Class of 2012 and most likely will be seen by many as the top player in the nation. He already has received more than a dozen offers from schools such as Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Iowa and Kentucky.

Shane Dillon (El Cajon, Calif./El Cajon Christian)
This 6-foot-4, 185-pounder will be one of the most watched signal-callers in his first year as a starter. He already has verbal offers from Ohio State and Cincinnati. Expect the rest of the nation to follow.

Gunner Kiel (Columbus, Ind./East)
Kiel threw for more than 2,500 yards and 26 touchdowns as a sophomore, and the 6-4, 210-pounder will be one of the more coveted pro-style quarterbacks in the nation. Purdue, Cincinnati, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Tennessee and Wisconsin were the early verbal offers on his plate.

Brionte Dunn (Canton, Ohio/Glen Oak)
Dunn ran for for more than 1,300 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore. At 6-1, 212 pounds, he is another of several big backs in the 2012 class. Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati were his first verbal offers.

Barry Sanders (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall)
Does that name sound familiar? Well, it looks as if the 5-10, 190-pounder is a chip off the old block. No surprise that Oklahoma State was his first verbal offer, but he has eight more to choose from, with Alabama being the latest.

Dorial Green-Beckham (Springfield, Mo./Hillcrest)
The No. 1 receiver in the nation? Green-Beckham could be the No. 1 player in the nation. Being 6-6, 220 pounds is enough of an advantage, but adding a 4.4-second time in the 40-yard dash seems almost unfair. Florida, Iowa, Southern Cal, Ohio State, LSU and Oklahoma are the early verbals with more to come.

Look out for Florida commit Latroy Pittman (Citra, Fla./North Marion), Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral), Nathan Cole (Memphis, Tenn./Mitchell) and Armani Reeves (West Roxbury, Mass./Catholic Memorial).

Taylor McNamara (San Diego/Westview)
The 6-5, 240-pound pass-catcher is already receiving interest from coast to coast, as California, Florida State, Ohio State and Kentucky are among the early verbals.

Others: Don't be surprised if a few mainland programs go out of their way to recruit Luke Kaumatule (Honolulu/Punahou). ? Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha teammates Brent Wilkerson and Michael Moore both have early BCS school offers. ? Florida Gators coach Urban Meyer has already made overtures to Dante Fowler (St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood). ? Josh Posley (Indianapolis, Ind./Warren Central) is another one to watch.

Deaysean Rippy (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox)
A player who flies to the ball and is ready to unload on the ball carrier, Rippy could be a linebacker or a big safety at the next level. Florida, Maryland and Ohio State are some of the programs that have an early verbal offer on the table.

Terry Richardson (Detroit/Cass Technical)
This speedy defender is receiving plenty of early buzz and appears to be the subject of a battle between Michigan and Michigan State. Alabama, Iowa and LSU have verbal offers on the table as well.

Guys that supposedly were in the discussion include Deaysean Rippy, Derek David, Bam Bradley, Brionte Dunn, Adolphus Washington and Se'Von Pittman...and the vast majority of the Scout analysts had Green-Beckham as the #1 player in the country.

As is this.

I almost mentioned that as well but decided not to since only two of them are Ohio kids...and having a couple of 5* RBs isn't that rare of an occurrence in the Buckeye state.

But four 5* DEs is almost unheard of...and then you add the fact that two of those guys play on the same teams with 11's Miller & Kenny Hayes...

It's been a long, long time since Ohio has had those kind of numbers at DE.

Free Scout - 2012: Michigan Has 14 New 3-Stars

Michigan already had two four-star prospects in Orchard Lake St. Mary's linebacker James Ross and Flint Powers defensive tackle Danny O'Brien, but they are now joined by 14 newly ranked prospects in what is turning out to be a great junior class for the state.

Royce Jenkins-Stone | LB | Detroit Cass Tech

He has had an outstanding season. We always knew he had the physical ability, but he really has put it all together this year and been a physical force for the Technicians. 6'2, 215-lbs with speed and a thirst for contact, he should be receiving offers very shortly.

Terry Richardson | CB | Detroit Cass Tech

With Michigan commit Delonte Hollowell on one side, teams have tried to throw at Richardson. Not wise. He has six interceptions on the year and has rarely given up any completions. Our question on him coming in was how well would he tackle? So far, he has been up to the task in that department. LSU, Alabama and Iowa have verbally offered.

Drake Johnson | RB | Ann Arbor Pioneer

How special is Johnson? Ask the Cass Tech players on this list, who he torched for six touchdowns in four different ways earlier in the season. He's big (6'1, 205), fast (outstanding track athlete) and simply needs to find a true position. Is it defense, running back or wide receiver? That remains to be seen, but he's a special athlete.

Laron Taylor | LB | Detroit Cass Tech

He's sometimes the forgotten one at Cass, but Taylor is one of the leaders of the defense and makes play after play. His lack of great size (6'0, 205) concerned me early on, but he has shown me that he has everything else, and projects as a weakside guy in college.

Nathan Ricketts | LB | Holland

The Dutch haven't had a big time prospect in a while, but Ricketts is primed to break the streak. He's a physical, solidly built middle linebacker with a good feel for the game as well as solid athleticism. True middle linebackers who can stuff the run seem to be rare in this class and Ricketts is just that.
