It's time to feel good about Ohio State's offensive line

A reporter prefaced a question to Ed Warinner this week with this editorial comment: "One of the units criticized more than any other here is the offensive line."
Warinner, Ohio State's new line coach and co-offensive coordinator, cut off the reporter and elicited laughs with his reaction. His eyes got big as he feigned surprise.
"Really?"
Welcome to Columbus.
The numbers, in this case, don't lie. The fact that Jim Bollman was in over his head last year as the play-caller came as no surprise to anyone who studied his decade-long work when he was strictly an overmatched line coach and not someone carrying dual responsibilities.
For some media outlets to call Bollman an offensive coordinator for so many years was perpetuating a myth. Before last season, he was an OC in title only. It was a way for the real play-caller (Jim Tressel) to give his buddy a bump in pay. We all saw what happened when the playbook was actually dumped in Bollman's lap last season.
How bad was it? The Buckeyes ranked 115th out of 120 FBS schools in total offense, ahead of football bastions Temple, Eastern Michigan and UNLV and two of the service academies. The other, Air Force, was two spots in front of the Buckeyes, and the Falcons run the triple option.
