2011 SEC Football Discussion

LSU and Bama are clearly the two best teams in the country.

No one else is even close.

LSU will buttsecks Georgia in the SEC-CG and then play Alabama in the BCS-CG in an oh-so compelling 2 - 5 thrillfest.

NO FREAKING WAY THEY PUT THAT MANY POINTS UP! The score will be LSU 4 - Bama 2.

That was the one thing that happened yesterday which resulted in an achievement for the Buckeyes. That makes two straight losing seasons for Tennessee, which hadn't done that since 1911. The team that currently has the longest streak without 2 straight losing seasons is now:

tOSU, whose last time with back-to-back losing seasons was in 1923-24.

And the Buckeyes took over that distinction from an SEC team - so we've got that going for us. :tongue2:

I see Georgia narrowly defeating LSU in the SEC-CG, leading to a national championship matchup between a team that didn't win its conference (LSU) and another team that didn't even win its division (Bama).

If this doesn't blow the BCS the fuck up, nothing will.

I tend to agree, but I also remember the end of the 2006 season at which time the general consensus was that the two teams that were the clear 1 and 2 had already played in Columbus, Ohio, on the last day of the regular season. SEC fans tend to forget that what happened in the National Championship game that season was the beginning of the national consensus that theirs is the best football conference in the country. Just sayin. I'm also just sayin I don't want to watch a rematch in a non-playoff setting.

The memory of 2006 would be why I've been hoping for a non-rematch. I guess at this point that means my hope is that OSU runs up the score on the Sooners and slips ahead. I won't be upset if the human voters pull shenanigans to get the Cowboys up ahead of the Tide, either.

Of course, if OK Lite hadn't blown one to Iowa State, of all the teams, this wouldn't be as much of an issue, either.

If Bama had played LSU the last game of the year like The Game is played do you think they would be calling for a rematch? 9-6 is eerily close to 42-39 just the opposite side of the spectrum of low vs high point totals.

Not too sure what the voters will do if Okie State goes bonkers on Boomer Sooner.

I really don't remember that being the general consensus. Granted, that would have been the B1G consensus. The SEC land thought differently. I'll have to revisit the old thread to find a nationwide poll on that.

ESPN fan poll has a majority of people picking OSU v. Mich. SEC states, Ohio, and Utah picked Fla, rest of the nation is Michigan

Well, BKB says he saw a nationwide poll, but you know how he gets when he's deep in the throes of an ether binge.

Anyway, it was an alleged ESPN poll, so Florida must have been the consensus. :wink2:

Edit: Florida was #2 in both the Coaches and AP Polls, so I would say that both of those are a better "consensus" than a fan poll....fwiw.

at the time that game was played, the media was all over a rematch.

Michigan stayed ahead of Florida for 2 full weeks after losing in The Game.
UF passed them when USC choked against UCLA the same week y'all beat Arky in the SEC CG.

I'd love to see that! Meanwhile... sometimes your public pronouncements come back to bite you in the ass, huh?
