Looks like Andy Staples has done his homework, too...

Ohio State Buckeyes
Yes, quarterback Terrelle Pryor has to sit out the first five games because of an NCAA suspension. But the Buckeyes always play good defense, and they have a stable of young tailbacks who can fill in for Boom Herron -- who is suspended for those five games but who also may turn pro. Remember the name Rod Smith. Smith is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound tailback from Fort Wayne, Ind., who redshirted in 2010. He is already drawing comparisons to former Buckeye Beanie Wells, and that bodes well for the future of the offense.

Given that 5 players, several of whom are significant contributors, will be missing from a 5 game stretch that includes MSU and newly inducted B1G member Nebraska - I'd say getting a top ten rating is not unreasonable.

While sandgk may have been off a game concerning suspensions and the UNL game, the fact that @UNL would be Tat 5's first game back (if the suspensions aren't reduced) will make that game very difficult to win. I'd like to see the suspensions get reduced by at least one game so that the Tat 5 have a game under their belts heading into Lincoln...

Well, Ohio State was only the 9th-best team this year according to ESPN, so it certainly makes sense to drop them down for next season.

For those of you who don't want to read the article, here's a recap of the ESPN top ten for 2011:

1. Oklahoma Sooners - Speed! Speed! Speed!

2. Alabama Crimson Tide - SEC rulz!!!!1!!

3. Oregon Ducks - Speed! Speed! Speed!

4. LSU Tigers - SEC rulz!!1!!!1!!

5. Boise State Broncos - No respect!!!!

6. Oklahoma State Cowboys - Speed! Speed! Speed!

7. Florida State Seminoles - Not just Speed, but Florida Speed!!!

8. Arkansas Razorbacks - Third-best team in SEC > > > > Big Ten champ

9. Stanford Cardinal - Andrew Luck!!! Tough! Smart! Work Ethic!

10. Ohio State Buckeyes - Suspensions! Tat 5! Soft schedule! Big, slow, plodding....

I dunno man, those five having to miss that many games, with one of them being your all world QB??? I don't think it completely unreasonable for folks to assume it might affect your season negatively. That scenario probably pencils in a loss to either Sparty or The People Of The Corn in many people's mind.

Hey, preseason rankings mean nothing to me. And postseason rankings mean very little, unless it's #1. But ESPN can't really have it both ways - they mention the Tat 5 being suspended to start the season, and then say, "Fortunately for the Buckeyes, their first four games aren't very arduous: home against Akron and Toledo, at Miami and home against Colorado." Either the suspensions are going to hurt, or the schedule is so damned soft that they could beat those stiffs with third-stringers....

BTW, since when is Miami on the road a "not very arduous" game. And Colorado is also an AQ team. And how is the Buckeyes' schedule so soft, anyway? They play two AQ opponents outside of their conference. How many other AQ teams will do that in 2011?
