They need to have the judges give scores other than 9 or 10. Too little differentiation among the scores without having tenths.
Yeah, it is a bit ridiculous now, but at the height of its popularity 25 years ago they were still using props. Griffin jumping over the hood of a Kia is no different than Dominique or Webb or somebody jumping over a rack of basketballs. At the height of the dunk contest it used to be one guy, one basketball - get creative and that was that. Its now a frenzy of stupidity. I'm sure we could find some Youtube trick shot and dunk studs to impress us with outside objects to dunk over and around.
