For discussion of non-Big Ten action...

Patriot League Semifinal between American & Lafayette is on CBSC right now in it's second OT. Each team has had a potential buzzer beater rim out to get to this point. Good game to this point.

Vermont the #1 seed in the American East was bounced by an under .500 Stony Brook team 69-47

looks like a trend of under .500 teams getting to the conference title game this year, with North Florida in the ASUN, Stony Brook in the A-East and now Lafayette in the Patriot

Belmont finished 30-4, and three of those losses were to Vanderbilt and Tennessee (twice). They won the ASUN, and could make things interesting in the first round with the right match up.

Lafayette has only advanced to the final. They will play the winner or Lehigh-Bucknell. Bucknell leads by two with about 8 minutes left in that one.

Hartford had a chance to tie with about 15 seconds left, but missed. Boston U was able to make their foul shots after that and win by 6 to go to the America East final against Stony Brook on Saturday.

Bucknell was able to hang on against Lehigh. They'll host Lafayette on Friday in the Patriot League Final.

Lafayette did Bucknell a favor. American was the second seed and hosting the conference tourney. Now the top seed Bison get a 13-18 team in the final on a neutral floor.

Hartford was also playing on their home floor. It's a definite advantage. Imagine hosting the Big Ten tourney in the Schott?

For sure. I sat in the Nutter Center a few years ago and watched Wright State knock off Butler in the Horizon League final. Students (myself included) packed the place with free and $5 tickets. If that game were pretty much anywhere else it probably would've been a Butler win - and that's even with WSU traditionally playing Butler tough.

It's something that comes with the territory in smaller conferences. They'll have a hard enough time securing a neutral site for that much time, let alone filling the place.

The America East tournament was hosted by Hartford, but the final will shift to the home court of the higher seeded team (Boston U.) I think that system strikes as good a balance as you can ask for between logistical competitive concerns in small conference.
