Loathing All Things Georgia
Man, summer camp was an absolute bitch this year. We averaged 107 degrees heat index all week. 97-98 degrees during the day - bright sun and no rain - with between 60-75% humidity. It was still an 87 degree heat index at midnight. When you drink five glasses of tea with your crappy camp dinner and don't wake up in your tent to go pee at sometime during the night, you know some dehydration is going on.
The fact that nobody died on me last week was impressive, considering 15 kids went to camp, and the one unifying characteristic of the bunch was ignoring what we told them. Like trying to manage a herd of ADHD cats. Trying to get 11 & 12 year olds to hydrate properly is murder on any day is tough, now that the do-gooders won't let me stub burning cigarettes into their little arms when they fail to drink enough.
We would not give them their trading post money in the morning until they drained about 16 ounces of powerade from the cooler in front of me first. Only two out of the 15 kids had a real heat related issue. One, my numb-nuts SPL who got sick and hurled on my hat at lunch before almost passing out, and one little kid who was dizzy with head aches for about two hours. That is it for me. Never again. We do North next year to Tennessee or Virginia or Northern Alabama.
Sorry about the lack of contact everyone. I really had no way to send a message until I got home.
