2011 Baseball Schedule

Transfers from Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, and Duke?

Shocking isnt it? Got a transfer from Ohio U as well. A couple of JUCO kids, too. I like that we wont have to rely on a bunch of true freshman to replace all the guys we lost. i'm also pleased that we are carrying a lot more pitchers than in in years past.

To this point Beals is doing everything i had hoped in terms of personnel and scheduling...Possible bromance in my future?

Schedule is out and it's pretty impressive. Dodgertown Classic replacement games are 3 vs California & 2 vs Fresno St ( Sorry brody, Beals couldnt get Webber Int. for ya :)), and oklahoma State comes to Columbus for a 2 game series!

dug for some info on the Transfers and JUCOs

RHP John Kuchno (Transfer from Wake Forest)

post from Wake scout site

Well the kid came to Wake with the intentions to walk on but injured his arm the summer beforehand and had to take a year of instead. Then once recovering, he pitched for his summer team based out of the Baltimore area this year and touched 91 mph a couple of times. John Kuchno is his name, he went to the same high school that current player Jack Carey did... and apparently after receiving an offer from Ohio state among other schools, Kuchno attempted to get in contact with Walter several times because Kuchno was a student at Wake and understandably would rather have stayed here, yet none of his phone calls were even returned until he had already committed to Ohio State, at which point it was too late

Now I understand that the roster limit is a sticky situation, but it seems like the current coaching staff has not problem recruiting over players who are no "their guys", notice this year's roster situation.... and are you telling me that we could not use a kid who is hitting 91, is 6'3'' + and lanky (so projectable), and only a year removed from arm surgery (so he could add even a few more mph)... I mean he might not be Greg Maddux, but he doesn't just throw the ball down the middle of the plate either

RHP Brad Goldberg (Transfer from Coastal Carolina)

2009: Appeared in 13 games for the Chanticleers, making one start against the College of Charleston March 18... Had a 1-1 record with a 2.45 earned-run average and 17 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched... Struck out the side March 16 at UNC Asheville... Also had three strikeouts in an inning April 22 against the College of Charleston... Allowed just one run on four hits in three innings in his start against the Cougars... Earned the victory against Stony Brook March 8...

Report
Brad Goldberg is a 2008 RHP with a 6'4'', 220 lb. frame from Beachwood, OH who attends Beachwood HS. He is a well proportioned athlete with very good present strength. He throws from an over the top release point with good angle to the plate. Goldberg has a soft front side in his delivery and tends to fall off and pull his head off the plate on release, which costs him some command and consistency. His fastball touched 90 mph and was consistently in the upper 80's and mostly straight. Goldberg threw both a slider and curveball and the slider was the better of the two. It had a big sweeping break in the mid 70's and could grow into a tighter and harder breaking ball. His curveball was in the mid 60's and a show pitch only against better hitters. We didn't see a change up. Goldberg was a pretty good hitter for a primary pitcher, too. He has a rotational swing that has bat speed and some power and good leverage at contact. He is a good student and has a verbal commitment to Coastal Carolina.

OF Mike Carroll (Transfer from Duke)

hit .258 (.312 OBP) in 93 ABs with 5 stolen bases as a true freshmen for Duke

C/1B Brad Hutton (Polk CC Transfer)

http://www.njcaa.org/colleges_colle...=Roster&slid=3&teamid=100433&athleteid=253364

hit 12 HR in 41 games in 2010 and 12 HR in 2009 (.314 BA in 2009 .288 BA in 2010)

C Greg Solomon (Paradise Valley CC Transfer)

http://www.njcaa.org/colleges_colle...y=Roster&slid=3&teamid=99607&athleteid=253222

hit .188 in 8 games in 2010 and .241 in 32 games in 2009

good news on the recruiting front, I see.......

As much as I liked Coach Todd, he seemed to have really not cast a very wide net...even in OHio. From what I've read, there has been some serious talent come out of Ohio the past 5 years and most of it hasn't even been considered by OSU. But I'd like to get the perspective of someone who is closer to the Ohio HS baseball scene.
