2010 SEC and Big Ten OOC football schedules

Only difference is, OSU has played Toledo twice in twenty years and LSU has played Tulane 9 times...I'd say that's a whole lot of difference.

And half a game per year over two decades = 9 or 10 games, that's every other year. And like I said most those years were not playing Tulane or Toledo.

And in 20 years Ohio State played Indiana 16 times and LSU played Vandy, I don't know, at least 10 with similar results.

I'm of the opinion that what both sides are proving is that it doesn't make sense to play anybody dangerous outside your conference and thus no one in either conference does it very often.

One example that hasn't been brought up is when Alabama invited USC to Tuscalusa (sp) in the mid sixties. They got their ass kicked for the effort, but some historians have pointed to it, as well as the Texas Western shellacking of the Cotton Nash Kentucky wildcats in the NCAA finals, as major determining factors in ending segregation at SEC schools.

To be perfectly fair, Big 10 colleges were hardly any better. Bill Willis is the first black to play football for the Buckeyes in 1941 and Jesse Owens was not permitted to live in a dorm when he arrived on campus in 1934.

It was that segregation policy which had created a history of SEC teams seldom playing outside of the old Confederacy and I wonder if perhaps that history created a sense that they didn't need to play outside the region. Within a year of losing to USC Bear Bryant had tapped into the local talent pool. The same was true for Adolph Rupp.

YouTube - Raw footage Saints Homecoming Parade!

Edit: AWESOME night. I had only my sport coat, so I was cold as [censored] w/ 36 degree wind chill, but once I lost the feeling in my hands from holding my drink, it wasn't so bad. I'll try to load some of my poor res phone video tomorrow to show how it looked from my balcony near the old City Hall. The best part of the night was when a float full of the Big Uglies was stopped waiting for the parade to move. It was about 7:15-7:30, and the boys had not had dinner yet. So they are on the float, and they look over the crowd and about ten to fifteen people deep away they see a Mardi Gras snack wagon with [censored] like Polish Sausages, Funnel cakes, chicken on a stick, and generic carny food. The crowd is going crazy, bands are playing, and they are about 150 feet from the reviewing stand where the Mayor, the Governor, and both US Senators are positioned. So everyone is watching and screaming - and then - about five linemen jump off the float, and we all go "NO THEY DID-ENT..", and they start to push their way through the massive crowd in what is clearly a focused run at the roach coach for some food. Everyone is laughing their asses off, as they make their way through the huge crowd high fiving and slapping them on the back. The poor sum bitches at the window don't realize who is behind them until they turn around and see the linemen descending upon them.

They order what looks like about fifteen brats or sausages, and one of them tries to pay for the food - which the sellers won't take. They even throw an attempted tip back at them - which they miss, because by now the float is moving and they have to run to get back on, tossing the food up to their buddies as they try to get on before they hit the VIP stand. It was so freaking funny, I thought I'd pee myself. :banger: I love this city!

Penn St and Alabama play in the next few years.

LSU in the next decade plays TCU, Arizona St., and Oklahoma.

Tennessee plays Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ohio St, USC Trojans in the next 12 years. Damn they aren't afraid of anybody.

Georgia will tangle with Oregon in 2015 and 2016 plus they have Ga Tech on their schedule.

Michigan St is going to play with WV and Alabama in the next decade.

I wish Michigan would get involved and schedule big time opponents like they used to. When Bo was the coach, Michigan played Miami and Florida St when they were powerhouses. Of course ND and Michigan had some epic battles when they were top 10 teams. Michigan used to have some brutal schedules. Even though Michigan is down......it would be nice to get some big time games on their schedule. It could only help in recruiting among other things.

Maybe in the future conferences will face each other like in basketball such as the Big Ten/ACC challenge.

Will never happen, but that would be awesome...
+1. The fan interest would be huge ratings. Getting to home at some of the storied stadiums would be fantastic. But the current television deals won't let there be some kind of special payout to make up for home game revenue loss. If they could find a way to pay a million a game to each visiting team (or a season revenue average, if it is less than a million) which would include the 500k or so they normally get from the home team, that would be very doable.

The question is, do you simply swap stadiums the next year for the other half of the home and home, or arrange match ups based upon the prior year conference rankings - or the current year rankings - or what?

This is a dated thread - but some good OOC news.

Ole Miss will host Boise State in 2011:

Boise State schedules game at Ole Miss for 2011 season opener - One Bronco Nation Under God

Curious to hear Buckeye fans take on this and the various reactions.
Will they be?

1. GOOD FOR THEM! Ole Miss steps up and plays a tough team
2. Pssh...pussies. Boise State is weak - go play Texas.
3. Well ok - why no return trip to Boise?
4. If Boise has the attitude of "We'll play Anyone, anywhere" - why are they accepting 900k to play at Ole Miss
5. Not bad - it'll provide a nice break from you humping your cousin

First thoughts after seeing this game on the schedule was:

1. Why pay them? If they want to act like the "big boys" then don't expect money for OOC games. I'm assuming the only reason they asked for money is that there is no return trip to Boise scheudled. But it should be a "cover their travel expenses and that's it" type scenario.
2. Probably a 10-13 point Ole Miss victory. Boise Graduates 18 Seniors this year and Kellen Moore will be a Junior, I assume he'll leave early too.
3. Ole Miss is gonna be down this year - but has a chance to get alot of players good experience for 2011, I think they'll be ready.
