2010 Ohio State Spring Game (Apr 24, 1 ET, BTN)

Scarlet, gray and pink

The OSU coaches will be wearing pink caps and the players sporting pink-accented jerseys during the annual spring game April 24.

No, it's not another Nike-prompted "alternate uniform."

The hats and jerseys will later be auctioned off to benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund for breast cancer research. Spielman passed away last November.

The game is set for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff and will be preceeded by a men's lacrosse game against Air Force (11 a.m. start).

Fans can purchase tickets at the Athletics Ticket Office, online at OhioStateBuckeyes.com, and through Ticketmaster. The price of each ticket is $5 in advance and $10 day of the game (day of game sales are cash only). Ohio State students get into the game free with a valid ID. Children 6 and under will be admitted free of charge. Seating is general admission.

Open parking will be available in most of the lots surrounding Ohio Stadium.

As a cancer survivor myself, I applaud their efforts in supporting the Stefanie Spielman Fund. That being said, why oh why does everything having to do with breast cancer campaigns have to be accented in pink? Pink jerseys, pink gloves, pink shoes, pink wristbands, pink caps, etc. Just keep the uniforms and accounterments as usual and give the money to the fund. Do they really think the jerseys and caps auctioned off will get more money with pink on them? If anything, they'll get less money because who is going to wear a pink Buckeye jersey (aside from Thump)?

It's just marketing. Pink is a readily identifiable branding tool that lets everyone know what the cause is. Personally, I'd like to see them wear scarlet/grey jerseys that have "Save Second Base" printed on the name plates across the back, but pink jerseys will serve the same purpose.

I like the idea of having the cause represented on the nameplates on the back of the jerseys. I've seen that implemented recently and feel like it's also a great way to visually represent support for a cause.

The first half of that reminds me of an annoying line by an actor with an annoying voice: "That is so NOT surprising that I think I might die from NOT-surprise."

The second half is mildly interesting. It makes me wonder if only TP will be in a black jersey and the other QBs will be live. If that is the case, it is a good choice; although not necessarily indicative of who the back-up will be in September.

That was a "no brainer", if there is one position on the team that has the biggest drop off in talent from the 1st string guy to the 2nd string guy it is at the quarterback position.

yes, it was a no-brainer that pryor would be the first quarterback chosen, but it wasn't a no-brainer that he would be the first pick overall. tressel has often gone to the defensive line as the first position to open up.

anyway, my post had more to do with guiton being the second pick than with pryor being the first. i wasn't surprised, but i don't think it was a given that bauserman would be picked third.

Tressel doesn't choose which position opens first. The difference between the starter and the back-up is the criterion by which the choice is made by the squad that wins the coin flip. Hence, TP being the first choice was, in fact, a no-brainer.
