2010 Ohio State Spring Game (Apr 24, 1 ET, BTN)

TW has a couple of very nice catches, hope he can step up this year.

Agree...that last TD he had was a beautiful catch...up over the defender and catching it with just his hands then keeping his balance to run into the endzone. He's always had the physical tools, now if he can put some confidence with those tools he just might have a very nice senior season. I'm sure rooting for him!

Kenny Guiton proved that he definitely has the ability to be a QB at this level. Made some mistakes of course, but has a nice arm and seems like he has some nice moxy in the pocket too.

Torrence had some decent returns...maybe the Bucks found their return man.

berry didnt have pads on for those wondering why no talk of him...not known if it was mentioned earlier if he wasnt scheduled to play...and washington is making a strong strong case for #3 WR

I think Berry is still suffering the effects of having his ankle rolled on in the jersey scrimmage.

Two things I noticed today: John Simon was lined up at DE a lot (might just be because of split personnel) and Jake Stoneburner was frequently lined up as an H-back and was out on almost every pattern I watched. If that's any indication, they're serious about throwing the ball his way a lot this year.

My 2 cents:

Positives

The three main RBs looked fine. When Saine makes cuts ont he fly instead of coming to a stop to change direction, he is easily the best back we have right now.

The three main receivers looked fine (including T Washington as #3).

Adams looked way better than Miller to me.

We are loaded on the defensive front seven two-deep. Wow.

Torrence looked great in the return game.

Zach Boren is now one of my favorite players on the team.

Stoneburner showed himself to be a big new weapon this year.

Disappointments

Defensive backfield.......
Our safety play was, for the most part, horrid.
Apparently O Johnson has never seen a first move he didn't like, because he got burned every time there was a double move.
Torrence got burned repeatedly in the first quarter.
Gant is not a dependable back-up. Oliver made a good play on the pick, but even that was helped by the receiver waiting for the ball.
Tackling - facemasks.

J Berry didn't get to play. He was the one player I most looked forward to seeing today. Have to wait 'til August, I guess.

I liked the way Hyde ran out there for sure. TWash had his regular show-stopping spring game performance, hopefully he gets a chance to do it on game day. Guiton showed some real positive signs, especially with no picks (right?). Exciting day overall, plenty of spirits and excitement at the game, recruits probably had a good time. Even though it was cloudy, it still felt really good out there.

Whew on Guiton, We don't need an injury like that.

We saw Keith Wells walking outside the stadium and asked him how Guiton was, he said he was OK but KW was afraid that he hurt him and was in Tressle's doghouse. KW was very gracious and signed many autographs on the way out. Saw Posey too doing the same. The team had to walk across to another building near the track to change, seemed strange. Posey had a guard with him as he walked and seem to be enjoying the pub.

what happened to Guiton? My DVR cut off like 3 minutes into the 4th quarter and didnt see anything after that...

He got run into after throwing a dump off pass. It looked pretty bad as it was a helmet into his knee on the throw, but he walked off the field and seemed to be ok. Bummer part was his team was winning and had the ball with like 42 seconds to go when it happened.

Well its good that he walked off the field on his own.

What to think of all those receivers getting past the DBs and safeties?
Did the lack of blitzing make that big a difference?
We may miss Kurt Coleman terribly. And safety may be our Achilles heal.
Is that an over-reaction to a Spring Game?
Is T-Wash the player we saw making even Torrence look bad?
So much talent on this team! So many weapons on offense! A wealth of capable running backs who can also catch the football.
A deep D-line.
But that secondary worries me right now.
And the punting looks pretty bad right now.

Lack of blitzing made a difference, though even with the DL split between two squads, there was a more than reasonable amount of pressure. Blame almost all of it on poor coverage. I was not excited seeing how many guys were open deep, and how late safeties came with help. The QBs flat missed on a number of wide open routes, or this would have been a much higher scoring game.

Safety is an issue, and there's no depth. Splitting the DBs up doesn't help matters much. I'm hoping that Moeller is 100% by August and can be part of the answer there.

Punting was dreadful. I wanted to cover my eyes at times. These are not the days of Andy Groom, that's for certain.

That pretty much sums up the negatives, though. OL play looked solid for the most part, Adams in particular may be coming around at LT, our running back depth is so sick that the walk on even had some strong carries, Guiton showed significant potential...lots to be happy about, yet plenty of stuff to work on before Fall camp.
