2010 FIBA World Championship

Hey the USA "B" team just beat Iran (88-51) and is now 4-0 in their group. Actually with the talent he has (or lack there of), Mike Krzyzewski is probably doing a pretty good job.

Re: And in a nod to the Iranian supporters in Istanbul -- which included minister of sports Ali Saeedlou earlier in the tournament -- dancers were ordered to cover up for their performances during the game. Islam prohibits women from exposing their skin in public, and Iranian officials had turned their backs when the dancers performed in earlier games.
The dancers wore long pants Wednesday.

Chauncey Billups leads balanced effort as U.S. cruises

ISTANBUL -- Before it can win a world championship, the United States needed to start looking like a world champion.
Kevin Durant, Chauncey Billups and the rest of the Americans finally had that appearance Monday, powering into the quarterfinals with a 121-66 victory over Angola.

Learn some Russian....

Say what? Team USA two wins from title

ISTANBUL -- The inclination for a player in foul trouble is to hold back, even just a little. Not so for Andre Iguodala, who played with so much energy and passion right when the Americans needed it that one of the Russian players actually thought he was swearing at him -- in Russian.
"He say in Russian a bad word. I don't know how he know this. I won't even translate it. It's bad," said Russian forward Andrey Vorontsevich, who got yelled at by Iguodala after being a little too physical with Lamar Odom.
"All I said was, 'watch it, watch it,'" Iguodala said, bewildered. "I don't speak any Russian."
Apparently (according to bilingual Russian journalist Vladimir Gomelsky of NTV+, the Russian all-sports cable network), if you say, "watch it, watch it" fast enough, it can be misconstrued as the Russian euphemism for a female canine.

Kevin Durant surpasses Carmelo Anthony's single-game mark, fuels semifinal win

ISTANBUL -- Kevin Durant is unlike most of America's biggest basketball stars. He couldn't wait to wear the red, white and blue this summer. Especially on Sept. 11. With a special memorial message on his sneakers, Durant carried the United States into the gold-medal game at the world championship, scoring a U.S.-record 38 points Saturday in an 89-74 victory over Lithuania.
