And because I'm bored I thought I would go ahead and do a precursory top 25. This may or may not be my preseason ballot.

I find a lot of uncertainty going into this season. So alot of this ballot is about degrees of confidence I have in the teams perfomance this coming year. Past performance is only taken into account for the preseason ballot in determining how I feel about the team for the 2010 season. Ranking 1-14 was difficult enough, but ranking 15 - 25 was brutal.

1. Ohio State
~ The Buckeyes have the talent returning and ended of the 2009 season spectacularly and should be a consensus #1 among preseason polls. Also they have the least question marks for any team with elite talent. Alas they happened to lose 2 National Championships in a row 3 years ago.

2. Alabama
~ I hate the SEC. I hate Alabama. I hate Nick Saban. I loved watching them run Ingram and Richardson over and over and saying "Here it is, stop it." No one could. I don't think that changes much through the regluar season. What does change is 9 new starters on defense. However, at this point I expect a Nick Saban defense to be awesome in much the same way I expect a Tressel defense.

3. Va Tech
~Starting now the ranks are about as much how negative I feel about the teams below as I am confident in the teams I'm ranking in the spot. It's the ACC, which stinks but, I tried to justify someone with a degree of confidence above them and I just couldn't do it. The important parts of the offense return and Bud Black inspires nearly the same confidence that Saban and Tressel do.

4. Florida
~ I hate the SEC. I loathe the Gators. I dislike Urban Meyer. Florida though is as talented as anyone and as well coached as anyone. How would the rest of you feel if this was Ohio State breaking in new talent the way Florida is, but with not many great teams heading into preseason.

5. Nebraska
~ I could say this feels high but nearly everything does. Nebraska has the easier division in the North, Texas at home, and a viable coach.

6. Iowa
~ Like I said degrees of confidence. I don't know that Iowa will be this high, but I feel strongly that that the basement isn't too much below this.

7. Oregon
~Don't like Costa as much as Masoli as a football player but I still think they are the class of the Pac 10.

8. Oklahoma
9. Texas
~Texas feels very much like the Florida to me except that Mac Brown is no Urban Meyer when it comes to game planning and in game coaching. OU is very tough to gauge. I'm picking OU over UT in that game right now so this is how I have them ranked. I do think it's reasonable to expect improvement from the OU besides left tackle, but there is still question marks there.

10. Wisconsin
~ See Iowa. A Badger fan might be able to convince me to switch them with the Hawkeyes, but Ferentz > Bielema.

11. Boise State
~ Lose to Va Tech win everything else. Though the Oregon State game gave me a little pause before I realized they were playing in smurfville.

12. Miami
~ See Iowa and Wisconsin just not quite as good.

13. TCU
~ Also gets Oregon State at home and the MWC slate. There is also the Robert Griffin wild card they have to play, but it is still Baylor.

14. Georgia Tech
~ Losing Dwyer doesn't really hurt this team. Losing Morgan hurts. Tough team to prepare for in season will get them wins they don't get otherwise.

15. Notre Dame
~ If you want to talk about which team upgraded the most in the offeseason. Going from the Jabba to Brian Kelly is like upgrading from a Chevette to a Corvette. Kelly doesn't have to be that great a coach to provide a huge lift over Weiss, about 3 wins worth. Their schedule is pretty easy, and I think they should beat the team I have directly below them.

16. Pitt
~ Favorite in the Big East but an actual tough Non Conference slate of Utah, Miami, and Notre Dame keep them from going too high.

17. ~ Cincinnati
Butch Jones won with Brian Kelly's player at CMU. There's no reason to think he can't do it against coaching savants the Wannstache and Bill Stewart. Nearly everyone returns except the QB, but Collaros nearly took as many snaps as Pike and some would argue was more effective with them.

18. UNC
~ Butch Davis will have a heck of a defense if the NFL people are right.

19. Oregon State
~ I think Mike Riley. I think the Beavers snatch a win at Boise State or more likely TCU. You figure out which one.

20. Stanford
~ Jim Harbaugh's farewell tour. Welcome to your 2011 TSUN Skunkbear Headcoach. Say Jim, are you excited about the prospect of having the most players 5'11 and shorter on your roster than any coach at TSUN since Yost?

21. Georgia
22. LSU
23. Auburn
24. Arkansas
~ One of these teams ends up near or in the top 10, one around 14, one remains ranked around here, one falls out completely (LSU?) and someone else from the SEC climbs in (Cocks?). How can anyone know anything about these teams? Arkansas smells a lot like Ole Miss last year to me.

25. Michigan State
~ Kirk Cousins is good. No Ohio State. Penn State in a down year.

Missing
Penn State ~ Hard to rank a team when you're predicting 4 to 5 losses.
Boston College ~ It's awfully hard to rank the 4th or 5th best ACC team.
Florida State ~ How much is really changed? See Boston College
Clemson ~ See BC
WVU ~ No confidence in Bill Stewart
South Carolina ~ Too many ???

Let's discuss.

1. Alabama- They have everything you could want on offense, including a SR. quarterback and the 2 best RB's in the country IMO. They lost a lot on D, but Saban defenses are always tough.
2. Ohio State- Talent and experience everywhere. Possibly the best O-line under Tressel. If Pryor plays near his enormous potential, we have a great shot to run the table. Tough road schedule though.
3. Florida- They lost a ton but Urban has been the best recruiter in the country since he arrived. They will just reload on D and Brantley will be good enough at QB. Favorable schedule as the SEC East is pretty down.
4. Oklahoma- Bradford going down last year was good for this year?s team. Jones will be a beast, Murray is a beast when healthy and Stoops always has top notch defenses. Texas should be relatively down and get FSU at home.
5. Iowa- Like them a lot, but they remind me of the 2003 Buckeyes. Great D-Line, won a lot of close games the year before but the bounces didn't quite go the same way the next year. Wisky and OSU at home is helpful.
6. Boise St.- Likely to go undefeated, but I think all of my top 10 could run their schedule. Super experienced and will be favored in every game. I'll put a 1 loss BCS conference team (possibly minus the BE) in over them at the end of the year though. Have to play the week in, week out tough schedules those conferences do to play for the crystal ball.
7. Miami (FL)- My semi-sleeper team, I don?t think they beat OSU in Cbus but they are really talented. O-Line and if Harris can cut down turnovers are the big questions. Tough schedule as well, but 10-2 very probable and would be really impressive.
8. TCU- Like Boise but they play a harder schedule in the MWC . Very well coached and won't lose more than 1 game.
9. Texas- This might be their worst team in awhile, but they always seem to win 10 games with their talent and the Big 12 is relatively thin. Will have to run the ball better this year.
10. Wisconsin- Well coached, best O-line in the country and a stud RB. Never lose games they shouldn't, but equally rarely win games they shouldn?t. OSU and @Iowa will be the losses.
11. Va Tech- Super running game, but Taylor is still questionable at Qb and their D wasn't up to par with Beamer D's last year. Tough schedule as well (ACC is tough).
12. Nebraska- Very good team and won't be challenged in the Big 12 North. Don't think they are quite up to Okla and Texas level yet but they just might be.
13. Oregon- Losing Masoli hurts them a lot, but the O will still be really good. Weren't great on D last year and won't be this year either, but the Pac-10 is a little down.
14. Pitt- Class of the Big East but Wanny will find a way to lose a couple games, possibly including their opener against Utah.
15. UNC- I?d have them around 10 if I knew who all was going to be eligible. Maybe the best D in the country. O just needs to score 20 and they?ll win every game.
16. USC- Down year last year and an off-season of turmoil and attrition. Still talented enough to challenge for the Pac-10 crown but I have a ton of questions about Kiffin's coaching ability. Depth will also be an issue.
17. Ga. Tech- Love the triple option and Allen will be a monster this year. Not quite as talented as Miami and UNC though.
18. LSU- Jordan Jefferson needs to make some strides or this team could struggle big time in the SEC West. I think he will make some but not enough.
19. Notre Dame- I think Kelly is a fantastic coach, and Charlie was a pretty good recruiter and definitely didn't leave the cupboard bare. Schedule isn?t that daunting either, especially with USC and Mich down.
20. Utah- Always well coached and tough. Schedule helps getting Pitt at home.
21. Arkansas- Mallet is the best pro QB prospect in the country IMO. Needs help all around though.
22. Penn State- Thought about leaving them out but my Big 10 bias got the best of me. Questions at QB and O-line and not quite the talent on D to completely cover for that.
23. Stanford- Harbaugh can coach and Luck is sweet. Next year they will take the Pac-10 over, not quite there yet.
24. Mich. State- Last game of the season will decide who ends up in my final poll between Sparty and PSU. Good D and more experienced O with a solid running game. OSU is off the schedule as well.
25. Houston- Keenum will lead them to a fantastic season against a weak schedule.

Other I considered: FSU (rough rough sched), UC (losing Kelly hurts), Georgia (QB play?), Auburn (SEC West=too much), WVU (Devine and what?), Oregon St. (Play TCU and Boise OOC, interesting)
