An early look at the teams for 2010.

Ohio State Buckeyes

Outlook for 2010

Pretty good. The Buckeyes return 98% of their rushing yards and 85% of their receiving yards. But of more concern for Jim Tressel is the fact that the Buckeyes only return 7% of their punting yards...

Who's coming back?

Nine starters on offense and seven on defense. The Buckeyes will have to break in two new kicking specialists, however. Ross Homan has a great shot at being the next All-American linebacker for the Buckeyes

Who's not?
Defensive end Thaddeus Gibson will take his soul consumption to the next level, but the loss of Doug Worthington will probably be felt more heavily for all that he was able to provide the Buckeyes. Retaining safety Jermale Hines allows the Buckeyes to not run screaming into the street at the thought of losing both safeties Kurt Coleman and Anderson Russell without anybody else to turn to.

Better or Worse?
Better. Come get your whoopin?, Purdue.

What's the story?
Does Terrelle Pryor start next season like he finished this one? Or will there be another build up that frustrates fans like nothing you?ve ever seen before? (Except for every prior Tressel season ever, of course.)

Anything interesting about the schedule?

Once the Big Ten season starts, the Buckeyes will alternate home and away games for the first time since 1994. The best non-conference game on the schedule will be Miami (FL) coming to town in week two. They could bring a top ten ranking with them as well.

A look at each team's schedule and some early predictions.

CFN

Toughest Schedules
Based on home games as well as who the teams play. when.

1. Ohio State
2. Michigan
3. Minnesota
4. Penn State
5. Northwestern
6. Michigan State
7. Iowa
8. Wisconsin
9. Indiana
10. Illinois
11. Purdue

Ohio State

Big Ten Teams Missed: Michigan State, Northwestern
Realistic Best Case Record: 12-0
Worst Case Record: 8-4
Likely Finish: 11-1

Summary: It all sets up well for an unbeaten run, but there are just enough landmines to ruin a perfect season. Playing a loaded and athletic Miami team in Columbus will be a terrific early test, but the rest of the non-conference schedule is a breeze with two MAC teams (Ohio and Eastern Michigan) and Marshall. Missing Michigan State and Northwestern in Big Ten play might not seem like a big deal, but the two went to bowl games last year and each should finish in the conference's top five. There aren't two road games in a row, but while the trip to Wisconsin comes after a relative breather against Indiana, the showdown at Iowa comes a week after facing Penn State. Getting a November 6 week off is going to come in very, very handy down the stretch.

Sept. 2 Marshall
Sept. 11 Miami
Sept. 18 Ohio
Sept. 25 Eastern Michigan
Oct. 2 at Illinois
Oct. 9 Indiana
Oct. 16 at Wisconsin
Oct. 23 Purdue
Oct. 30 at Minnesota
Nov. 6 OPEN DATE
Nov. 13 Penn State
Nov. 20 at Iowa
Nov. 27 Michigan

With the Alabama-Penn State game, I'd guess that we probably won't get GameDay that weekend. Probably for the game in Madison, though, if both teams live up to the hype.

bama will be having a down year though....wouldnt be surprised to see the gameday bus on campus vs miami

That maybe, but the game is week 2 so they won't have any losses yet. Alabama will probably be preseason #1 and they are the defending national champs. I'll be pretty surprised if they aren't in Tuscaloosa.

Penn state plays ooc cupcakes most years. Osu? Powerhouses every year with a decades worth coming up.

Cbus hosts 3 epic games da u, psu and mich... Maybe a 4th in wisky depending on records. Penn state hosts bama and who? Msu? Tate? This is their one shot at glory.

We will be 8 seasons removed from the glendale upset. Since that time, espn has declared Oklahoma, USC, florida and now the sec as dynasties. Espn has also indoctrinated America to believe the modern era of football began on jan 1, 2007.

But most of all, this is their official conference and their flagship school if meyer's absence and condition was not just a ploy.

On top of that, the decision is:

Psu viewers vs Miami viewers since bama and osu are comparable.

- Both will be underdogs. When psu falls behind they won't bolt by halftime like the swaggerized canes.

Personally, I think that Alvarez is bullshitting on this one, but who knows..

Big Ten hires firm to research potential expansion candidates - JSOnline

Madison ? Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said Friday that Big Ten officials have hired a firm to research potential candidates as the conference considers expansion and that 15 programs were included in an initial report.
"They basically broke down what they would bring to the table," Alvarez said at a meeting of the UW athletic board. "They talked about academics. They talked about size. They talked about size of their arenas. They talked about attendance. They talked about the populace in that specific area."
According to Alvarez that process will continue, and Big Ten Commissioner James E. Delany could make a recommendation to the university presidents this summer.
"I think it could be one (school), or I think it could be multiple," Alvarez said.
Alvarez declined to identify schools on the list of 15 candidates but acknowledged he did not see Texas on the list.
It was reported recently that the Big Ten and Texas had begun preliminary discussions about the Longhorns leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten.
"In our initial study, there wasn't anything on Texas," Alvarez said.

Not sure all that actually plays into it. I think it just comes down the fact that game will generate more viewers and more attention and like you said PSU>Miami. Plus how many times has gameday ever been to Tuscaloosa? A couple maybe. On the other hand they've been to Columbus easily more than any other site, I think that plays into it as well but mostly I think it just comes down to the fact PSU and Bama is considered to be a more interesting game. Bama is the defending champ they deserve the attention, that'd be where I'd be going if it was my job to make that call and I really don't think it's that tough of a decison.

I'd be stunned if they didn't have Gameday in Bama for the PSU game.

I think they've been to Tuscaloosa 5 times. tOSU at the 'Shoe has the most visits (12), followed by Florida's Swamp with 11 (this doesn't count any times as the 'home' team in the WLOCP in Jax).
