2009 tOSU QB discussion (official thread)

We are in good hands at starter clearly...but an injury or two and we are in deep dodo.

We are thin here, and our superstar QBs legs are currently his best weapon. Given we cannot afford an injury here, he may have to scale back on the running in '09 to lesson the chance of injury. I would expect him to pass more often in '09 anyway.

Would be nice to add a QB just for depth in '09, but not sure if there are any viable options out there that would provide depth in '09 anyway.

Devontae Payne?
Patrick Nicely (current Akron Commit)?
Any JC QBs?
Dolapo Mccarthy? top 15 dual threat qb. top 10 player in IN. uncommitted. from same high school Dexter Larrimore. offers from IU, CMU,EMU,BGSU

I can't understand why no QB was offered earlier in the recruiting process. They new after Henton transferred they were going to be stretched thin when Boeckman graduated. We need to branch at of the midwest sometime to find a QB, like Texas or California. Those states produce QB's like no other and I'm pretty sure some of these kids wouldn't mind going out of state. We're in good shape with the Michigan kid next year and Miller in '10 if they come this way.

Somehow I doubt an offer comes out of left field here with such a short time left before signing day. Not at QB anyway. JMHO

I keep checking the Ispy feature expecting to see Gardners name pop up with "official offer" next to it. Time to get serious about next class.

Agreed. I think back to before Kevin Newsome was committed and wonder why we didn't offer him. Boyd was irrelevant when we offered...in fact, we should have offered on his announcement day and stood a better chance. Nicely is a decent option but he has switched around commitments as well, or maybe the QB from Ada? Bauserman is a good one in my mind and I would have no qualms with him playing, but after him we are in trouble. Anyone know how Oltorick looked in practice this year?

depth at qb isn't a significant concern unless we fail to pick up at least 1 qb in the upcoming recruiting class (preferably 2). if we strike out next go round, which seems very unlikely, then its time to start worrying about depth. boyd was a big time want (at least for me anyway). but depth wise was a nice to have, not a need.

with pryor and bauserman we're pretty solid. a true freshman coming in because of injuries to 1 and 2 midseason is pretty much the end of a season for any program. outside of tebow/pryor clones... i don't see many true freshmen qb's coming in mid season and having that type of impact on a team. that match of talent, maturity, physical ability, and at that age is very rare.

i have to think we would have done everything in our power to red shirt boyd regardless. remember, we played zwick with a hammy in a bowl game to protect a red shirt. with boyd's knee, i have a hard time seeing him in the rotation. we're good where we are right now. but i have to think qb's are at the top of the list for the upcoming recruiting class.

1. pryor
2. bauserman
3. martinss01 (no worries, i still have some eligibility left) where do i find the chicks who will sleep with you just cuz your on the team?

Maybe they'll get some guy from Texas that hasn't been talked about at all. :wink2:

Having a Plan B, and a Plan C, is a good sign about the organization of the staff.

Wish granted.
